|
Several days had passed. The poor child of happenstance that Bailos coerced into carrying the burden of his prison lay dead at the feet of an altar on top of Charnel Hill. The orb has returned to its 'home' curtesy of the boy's pain, ended by bite on the neck from Eve.
Bailos had taken his sweet time adjusting to the powers available to him inside his spherical prison. Every moment was a struggle, like tredding water, but it was getting easier. Bailos could vividly remember that after defeating his captor, the demon-god Io, the unbearable pain and force of all that energy flowing in to him put him right out for several days, so his preference for going slow was understandable.
Growing more comfortable with manifesting aspects of his will in the plane of Sosaria he was able to at least somewhat animate the corpse left behind by the slain boy. Carefully manipulating the degraded hands and rotting fingers, he guided the aberration through writing two letters....

Thrax,
Thank for all of your help *an odd smudge appears on the parchment* through my trying time. The odds are good I may have never been able to reach anyone had you not been such a dear friend. But the reason I write...I made arrangments to return myself to Charnel Hill and my remaining followers have been made aware. Soon I will call them to me, to you, and we will move. You must speak with me soon. These new powers are...immense.

Nathan, my student,
Your teacher has returned. You have done well for yourself during my absence but the time has come for you to make the next evolution. Some of those whom you have gathered, have brought me home. With my guidance, you and I will build an empire. Come under my wing once again, Nathan,
~B

As the last penstroke finished, the animated corpse twitched rather clumsily several times before falling limp to the floor in a worse state then when...freshly risen. The sun begins to sink behind the silouhette Umbra off in the horizon and nearby, a murder of crows caws in a dead oak tree. Enacted by sheer force of will, Bailos bringstwo of the birds to him to deliver the news to the recipients. |

As the crow entered the upper window of the Citadel of Blood, Harbinger, sitting on its perch, instinctively woke up from its impromptu nap. As the crow released its note and extended its wings to turn and fly away, the huge raven, like a blue streak of fury, swept toward it screeching. With huge black talons opened wide and extended forward, it slammed into the crow's exposed belly, ripping the mortified creature in half. As the two similarly-sized chunks of its body fell away below, a generous portion of black feathers fluttered slowly down dancing on a breeze.
Baron Thrax entered the room and noticed the letter lying on the floor near the window. Harbinger turned and squawked once, returning to its perch in the main hall. "Not up to playing the gracious host today, are we?" Thrax gently mocked his pet raven. He went to where the letter lay, opened it and began reading.
His eyes widened. He folded the letter and prepared for a visit to Charnel Hill tonight. |

He awoke deep within his stone tomb, the resting place of his former mortal family. His blue eyes were the only source of light within the darkness; the tomb was sealed. Nathan had spent the last day within the tomb, secluding himself from the mortals of the world of whom he had lost compassion for. His hands were very pale, and he was in a weakened state: he had not fed for some time. As he approached the tomb's doors, feelings of urgency rushed through his mind.
He pushed the doors open with the last bit of his energy, and he stepped foot upon the decaying grass. He looked to the sky, watching the sun set and the moon rise. It seemed as though it were a taste of things to come.
He pulled his hood over his pale face as he walked further from the tomb, and a certain bloodlust overtook him. Now in a state of confusion and weakness, he was desperate. He walked through the darking forests, seeking a source of energy. Suddenly, a camp of gypsies caught his eye.
I have no taste for gypsy blood... But it must do.
Now, the feelings of urgency rushed through him more than ever. The scent of living flesh had a certain pull on him, and it caused a revert to his animalistic and barbaric side. He walked through the forests swiftly, manipulating the darkness around him. The gypsies had no idea of what was coming.
* * * * * *
Now, licking the last drop from his lips, he proceeded onward, leaving a pile of six corpses behind him. His former altered state had given way, and he was now tame once more.
That was sufficient, he murmured to himself as he walked down the empy rural rode. From above, he heard the flapping of violent wings. He glanced up, and noticed the crow dropping a letter. He reached for it as it swayed back in forth in the calm breeze. The crow landed on a tree to the side of him, and its peculiar red eyes peered at him.
Nathan nodded, and withdrew a piece of paper from his shroud. He began to write:
My lord,
I am bound by darkness, and no doubt, bound to your teachings. I have organized and promoted our new Dark Sun as you wished. The false kingdoms will stand no more. Speak to me your guidance, and I will act accordingly.
May the darkness guide you,
N. W.
With Nathan raising the paper in the air, the crow rushed off, grabbing it firmly with its beak and flew off. _________________ "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne."
