Mallory felt very blessed that Gailan was a part of her life. He had been a constant friend as she tried to come to terms with the loss of her memory. Many evenings they had spent walking around Sanctus, talking. Mallory didn't know why or how, but she knew that she could fully trust him.

The night prior Gailan had met her at a meeting. She had not expected him, but when she turned and saw him, she couldn't help but smile. He quietly sat next to her and it dawned on Mallory how she suddenly felt very safe next to him. She began listening to the speakers as they began to discuss a summer festival. She was quite surprised when Gailan quietly took her hand in his. She looked down at her hand in his and smiled softly. This felt right, and she gently squeezed his hand.

After the meeting Gailan escorted Mallory back to Sanctus. They found Saidhe' and a young woman named Summer sitting outside enjoying the early summer evening. Soon they were joined by Lady Tika and the women were soon engaged in wedding plans. Mallory was honored when Saidhe' asked her to perform the ceremony. After a little while Saidhe' retired for the evening, leaving the four of them to talk. Soon the arcane lieutenant, Asher joined them, and the talk turned to the up coming elections for mayor.

Suddenly a man garbed in black riding a dark steed appeared. Mallory suddenly felt very uncomfortable and she shivered lightly. Mallory felt a hand on her shoulder and when she looked up Gailan just smiled slightly and Mallory relaxed and returned to the conversation with Tika. It was not long, however, before another darkly clad being joined them. He received a nod of acknowledgement from the other man, that Mallory had been informed was Dyn, a former mage of Sanctus, whom had been dishonorably discharged.

The conversation seemed civil enough at the beginning. Suddenly the drow looked at Mallory and said in a most condesending voice that she should keep her mouth shut until she had something of importance to say. Mallory's eyes flew open wide and her cheeks flushed brightly. Mallory didn't know what she had said to offend the man. Gailan looked furious and Mallory lightly placed a hand on his arm, to try to calm him.

Mallory shook her head from the memories. She was relieved that the skirmish had not resulted in anyone being injured. Gailan saw her safely home, and on the way let her know that he would be away in Trinsic for the weekend. She nodded slightly and told him he would be missed. As they said their goodnights, Gailan lightly kissed Mallory on the cheek before bidding her goodnight, and retiring to his own home.

For the first time Mallory began to believe that everything would be okay...
