From Queen to Orc's Wife:
Her eyes opened from what felt like a hard blink and she found herself looking across a table into the face of a stranger. Glancing side to side at the two other strangers at the table, the lady became confused. Who were these strange men? Looking around the room, many sights, sounds, and smells, totally unfamiliar to her, bombarded her senses.
"My lady, is something wrong?"
Being the only lady at the table, she glanced back at the drow man and asked if he were speaking to her. He had indeed, and his look became more worried as she answered his question, and then asked a couple of her own. Did she know him? Where was she?
It felt as though she were caught in a dream that had started without her. More questions and answers, and more people talking....coming closer. Too close. She began to feel uneasy with the looks nearly everyone in the room was giving her, so she stood to go outside. There were two sets of steps in the room. One leading up and one leading down. The people told her she was at a place called the DarkAdder, owned by the Dark Order, and it's leader, the Great Taro was her husband. And then there was the suggestion that they try hitting her to get her to remember them.
They wanted to hit her? She yelled and ran, her way to the steps was blocked, so she backed her way into a corner. The strangers said they were jesting about hitting her and that she should rest. One person mentioned something about "just taking her". They all seemed very obsessed with her going to a room to rest. But, no one had asked her if she were tired. She wasn't. All she wanted, was to get away from these odd people and breath fresh air. Just try to collect her thoughts. Try to figure out what was going on and ....and who she was.
As soon as she could, she ran outside. She began walking to get away from the tavern noises her sensitive ears still picked up, but as she was about to leave the area, her way was blocked by three men surrounding her. All trying to convince her to stay. Trying to get her to go to a room and just rest. She was not tired! She wanted to be outside where it wasn't crowded. At least, not until they came out to crowd her. Still the strange looks. They didn't seem like bad people....just odd people. And then the man in the skirt again mentioned the Great Taro. She couldn't be married to him, she told him. She would think that if she were married, she would certainly remember it. The man in the skirt told her to look at her ring and read the inscription. That it was proof she was indeed married.
The inscription read: Eternally bound between our Souls.
Bound? That was another word for bondage. This ring...it's inscription..it prooved no marriage. Perhaps she was a slave. That would explain why they wanted to hit her and lock her up in a room. NO! She wouldn't be locked up! She HAD to remain outside where she could breathe. And if she had to run away from these strange people in order to do that, then she would. The lady asked if perhaps they would please just step back a little. As they did so, she took off running to the east. Hearing running footsteps behind her, made her run that much harder. She ran until she had no more breath, no more energy to continue. The man came up quickly behind her, but, he approached her carefully. He had just wanted to speak with her, and so she agreed. He looked younger than the others that had been in the tavern. His appearance and voice were kind to her. And he spoke respectfully, yet seemed worried for her safety. After a bit of conversation, the young man , Draktyr convinced her to come back with him to the Adder. She could sit on the open roof and rest there. And she would be safe.
A few hours later, she was sitting in a large comfortable chair and had been told many curious things. The rather odd and loud lady named Cat seemed to make her feel comfortable and didn't try to crowd her as the others had. She was nice enough and seemed honest. So far she learned that her name was Ditto. Not only was she told she was married to this Great Taro, but that she was queen of Dark Cove. She found out that Great Taro was a kind hearted, caring man, and defender of the realm, who hated the evil beasts of Sanctus, that came to Dark Cove often to kill innocents. But he was a very sick man too. She imagined a frail, bedridden king and felt much sympathy that he couldn't lead his men against Sanctus as she supposed he would like. She'd been told that the man in the skirt, Poet, was her slave whom she whiped and beat daily. The thought of her beating anyone put a shudder down her spine. Was she some awfully evil queen that didn't care about people? Well, if she were, it was time to change all that then. She announced out loud that Poet was free. No longer a slave, and that it was time to rid the world of the Sanctus beasts once and for all. They would attack and destroy every single one of the evil beings and do her mysterious husband proud. If he could be that kindhearted, then perhaps she could too.
She was about to rally the troops when she was told there was one thing she should do first. Meet her son, Daerauko. Following Poet, Cat, and the drow man, she found herself in a large, comfortable bedchamber that she took an instant liking to. In a warm area of the room, near a window was a baby sitting up in a basket, playing with his fingers and looked up happily into her face. He was an adorable looking child. Dark hair and wonderful blue eyes that caught her attention. Instinctivly she bent down and picked him up. Holding him close to her, it felt right...but, he didnt' look a thing like her. His hair was dark and she was told that her husband's hair was white. If this cute little boy were her son, surely she would remember giving birth to him...but she didn't. Nor did she remember a husband that they claimed she loved deeply. Well, if she were what they said she was, the queen of a great military then she perhaps the upcoming battle to take Sanctus would be what was needed to bring her memory back. It was difficult imagining that she was a great warrioress, but she would try.
The Dark Order troops for the most part seemed willing to obey her orders to attack Sanctus. There were a few who questioned it and wanted to wait to see what her husband said.
She would not have them troubling that poor sick man. And besides, how was she to remember that she led a great army if she didn't go into battle? Some of the bystanders and civilians seemed to get more and more nervous. Some began rattling off that they'd lied to her. That she wasn't a queen. This confused her. The men all acted and responded to her as though she were a queen. Perhaps the civilians were just afraid of war. They all did agree that the Order was at war with the beasts of Sanctus. And they all did agree that she was married to the Great Taro. So, off they went to take Sanctus.
Even before they left, it was clear to her that she didn't have a clue as to how to proceed. Ricky had to take over leading the battle and he did a fine job of it too.
Once in Sanctus, in the middle of the raging battle, a lovely elven lady came up to Ditto. Concern written all over her face, she told Ditto that they had once been good friends, and she wanted to know why Ditto would be doing such a thing against Sanctus. From atop her mare, Ditto looked down into Isilmea's kind eyes and she could easily believe that they had indeed been friends. Ditto tried to explain that the Sanctus beasts were an evil scourge and she was a queen who wanted to be rid of them. She wanted much to talk to this lovely lady more, but saw that one of her soldiers needed aid quickly, and so she turned her attention to the fallen soldier. It was not long after that, when she felt herself being struck hard and godly fast and everything swirled and went black.
Back in Dark Cove, the wounded had been seen too, including herself. She would like to have thought that she was just getting her barings back, but that would have been far from the truth. She was no military leader. She knew that now. The Dark Order had fought well in Sanctus, but not because of her military knowledge. The others, like the ones called Ricky and Maximus had the true expertise in battle. She was not a queen.
There had been many confessions & discoveries about some of the information that had been told to her earlier that day, and she felt as though she'd been lied to by nearly everyone she'd met so far. So what was the truth? She was sitting on her mare trying to figure it all out when suddenly a group known as Sanctus were there. Not knowing what else to do, she rambled off one of the few spells she had some memory of and barely caused a scratch against the soldier's armor. A moment later and all went black again.
She awoke, bandaged and bruised. A crowd had gathered outside the Adder, yelling out their anger about the enemy. Being wartime, ofcourse there was anger. It was so very loud. So confusing. And though she didn't know much about herself..she knew one thing. She didn't like noisey, ill-tempered crowds. She was about to walk away when a sudden hush fell over the area. Turning, to see what caused the silence, she spotted a soldier astride a swamp dragon aproaching them. Glancing about, she saw that all eyes had gone to this soldier who seem to wear armor that showed him to be of some importance. She had not seen this one before and though his colors did not match that of the other ranks, she could tell instantly that he was a ranking member in the Order. He spoke loudly. Too loudly at times. She could not see his face, but his mannerisms were that of a demanding, hard hearted person. A loud person made of stone she thought him to be. As he went on being loud, Ditto found herself disinterested, and wanted to get away from this noisey stone giant.
It was then that she felt herself being tapped. She turned to look into the smiling, friendly eyes of an orc. His name was E'lyth and after a few moments of speaking with him, he presented her with an empty wooden bowl. Ditto smiled and commented that it was a nice bowl. He seemed suddenly sad that she didn't remember the bowl or him. He told her that she was his fem and that they lived together in their little shak. She didn't remember any of this, but everyone else had told her so many lies. Could he be lying to her as well? Thinking about this new information a moment, she deduced there was no good reason to lie to her about it. He was, after all, a very fine looking orc. She wasn't. In fact, when it came to the orc-look, she was far from it, so why would he even want to claim to be married to her if it weren't true? She looked at him again. He wasn't pushy, nor did he crowd her. He simply looked friendly and sad. He gave details of when he'd first given her the wooden bowl. No one else seemed to give her any real details. If only she could remember. Poet, who'd been standing nearby, suggested a kiss might bring her memory back. E'lyth seemed to become a little nervous and turned to look at the crowd. Awwe, he was shy too. How adorable! She turned to the crowd and saw that no one paid them any attention, they were all too busy listening to the loud stone man. A simple kiss certainly couldn't hurt. E'lyth bent over and as gently as he could, gave her a small kiss on the cheek. She returned the kiss to his cheek and waited to see if she'd remember anything. Nothing. Sighing, and still wanting to get away from the noise and the crowd, she suggested that they visit their shak to see if that might spark some memory. E'lyth thought this a very good idea and so, they left.
E'lyth was just about to show her into the shak when the drow man who seemed to always be close by slipped through the gate. This didn't seem to please her orc husband very much, and he seemed worried that this drow man would lie to his fem again. There was no need though. She trusted no one from the Dark Order. They had lied to her too much about who she was. Telling her tall tales of a kindhearted, sickly man who could turn into a large blue deamon. She had already deduced that this Great Taro person, king, whatever, was probably just imaginary anyway and didn't even exist.
Her orc husband though...now he was real. Friendly, protective, down to earth, and didn't seem to expect anything from her. He was just sad that she didn't remember him. He even told her that he didn't care if she could cook or not, that he just loved her the way she was. After they ate a nice chicken dinner E'lyth told her a few things about their life together. They'd been collered only a week and had been trying for little baby half-orcs. Simple, normal things. Believable things. Taking her to his father's house, he presented her with a beautiful shiney bracelet and ring. Putting on the new bracelet was easy enough....but the ring.. Ditto went to slip off the ring with the enscription, but something stopped her. In her memory, she saw a sudden quick flash of a man's warm hand, a human hand, slipping it on her finger. She shouldn't remove this ring. She didn't know why, but she just shouldn't remove it. Didn't want to. E'lyth's ring was nice & pretty, but he was understanding and put the ring away for her for later.
It was now time to make little orc babies. She was trying hard to follow a normal scedual that she must've kept with E'lyth to see if that would jar some memory out of her. And if orc babies was next on the list, then orc babies it would be.
The drow man, who she now knew as Darmug, was sitting on a rock and seemed to be aware of their every move. Well, that was somewhat perplexing...at least, it should have been, but she found herself, strangely relieved that he was there. Shaking her head and determined to get this overwith, she sugested that she and E'lyth go Back to the Adder where there were private bedrooms. Commenting about how they'd not used a bed since the collering, E'lyth however agreed and they then went back to the Adder.
A very ugly lady in a white dress was there, and she seemed jealous that E'lyth was Ditto's husband and not hers. She didn't like the snooty lady, and it didn't matter if the woman had muscles like a man. If she hurt her snukkum E'lyth's feelings one more time, she'd punch the woman in the nose. Everything then became confusing again and the man, Poet, another man she'd not seen before, and Darmug began confronting E'lyth and tried to get him to agree to thier story. Poet had lied to her. Darmug had been stalking her, & the other man was a total stranger. E'lyth however, had been nothing but sweet and patient. She would believe what E'lyth told her and now she would put this matter to rest once and for all. Ditto turned to E'lyth.
"I trust you E'lyth. What is the truth?"
E'lyth was thoughtful for a moment, and then said clearly in his orcish "The truth is.. that I love you".
That was that. Ditto went into the private room, followed by E'lyth and they closed the door. A couple of minutes later, room service knocked on the door and presented E'lyth with drink. Well, at least now it seemed things were turning around for the better. And though she thought her husband to be a wonderfully mojo orc, she thought that perhaps she would need a good drink if she were going to make orc babies. Drinking down the contents of the bottle, she and E'lyth then stood so that he could help her out of her clothes. The room swayed eerily and she wasn't even sure if she was standing or floating. With a big yawn, she managed to remove her top. Perhaps that action was a bit too much. Another yawn and she felt herself falling forward onto E'lyth. Then, with a sigh, all faded to dreamy blackness.
