The moonlight spilled into the room revealing a golden cloak draped over a chair in the corner. The South side of Serpents Hold was busy this night, the sounds from the street below of joyous men and women had been constant for hours now. Most would say the air had a bit of a chill to it, but compared to the air of Caina, where the man that sat on the edge of the bed had been for the past few months, it seemed a warm summer night.
Day after day he had gone to her, hoping that one day she might remember her past… remember what they had. She had not. Now she was gone again, the cottage she had been in for months was now empty, with no sign of her. He again did not know if she lived or not, and had no clue as how to find out. He began his journey back to Sanctus not the happy man bringing his love home again, but as the same man he had been when he left, a man who had the one he loved stolen from him.
To top off the evening, he had run into a contingent from the Ebon Skull within an hour of returning to civilization. The man shook his head and whispered to himself.
“What are the odds?”
Their words sounded similar to the propaganda Bailos had spread during his time in Sanctus, with talk of contradiction and corruption.
Soon he hoped, he would have answers concerning his lost love, and this alleged corruption. Tomorrow, Zarlox would return to Sanctus. |
