It was all going like child’s play. To bring him back they needed Elven blood, simple enough and done. Anna looked over the list of items needed, given to her by Sue, checking each one off.
“Now, to build the vat.” Anna handed Drone a list of items needed for the actual vat. “Comply. List update: Memory system.” Drone’s void eyes meet Anna’s and a whirling and click echoed in the castle.
Anna always marveled at their Drone creations. Her and Kotare had almost perfected the system under Dealthagar’s guidance. To take a human being and change them into a Drone to follow their every command, they felt, was just beyond pleasure. The only draw back from all this was the green gooey waste and remains. It was once again piling up and soon would need to be dumped. Anna thought to herself and came up with a wonderful plan so that the actions would not lead back to The Dark Awakening.

Anna sat at her desk as the words of her creator filled her mind:
"And lo he looked upon the terrible visage of Oblivion and was driven mad my the paradox of power: Only The Insane Have The Strength To Rule But It Is Those Who Rule, Who Judge What Is Truly Sane"
--Song of Dealthagar, The Oblivion Chronicles
A chilling laugh escaped her blood red lips as she began to read a tome written by a Drone
In the Mind of a Drone
Light, sound, smell, taste, it seemed like an eternity since he experienced these things. Trapped in nothingness for months or years or was it only days? He could no longer tell. Another plea burst from him, “Where am I?” More silence was expected, it had been that way since he found himself here, but not this time. Heavy methodical footsteps plodded toward him and the darkness answered, “You are on the other side.” “I am dead?” “Not quite.” The footsteps grew louder as the figure approached. “You ignored me, you denied me, you imprisoned me!” “Reveal yourself!” A beam of light shone forth from behind the unknown voice revealing a human like silhouette.
The Drone lowered his head and raised his forearm to shield his deprived eyes from the blinding light. “I’ve been freed,” the silhouette spoke, “I am no longer the hidden one and this is no longer my prison.”
The light source dulled slightly and shifted to the side. Drone lowered his arm and gazed at the being’s feet, it appeared to be a man donned in plate armor, but as his eyes raised it became obvious it was not human. Wires crackling with energy connected each joint of the entity’s limbs. Tubes extending from the creature’s torso running into its neck encased a sickly colored purple liquid, they twisted and writhed about its chest as if they had a life of their own. It spoke, “I’ve been to kind too you, when I was here you allowed me nothing. Yet here you are, albeit alone, but you comfort yourself with the memories of your friends and the sounds of their laughter.” Drone gaze paused as a deep fear overtook him, a feebly muttered “no” escaped from his lips as he raised his view to the mechanical constructs head. It was composed of dozens of pieces of polished metal melded together, a miniature reflection of himself stared back at him from each one. “I am not a Drone!” he desperately cried as he lunged towards the automaton.
A sickening crack filled the air as his face met with a mirrored wall, twirling around he found himself in a small room, mirrors covered the walls and the ceiling, the floor was composed of a metal like substance that clanged under his feet as he moved. His voice seemed to come from everywhere “yes you are,” it taunted, “I have played this game with you over and over and I must say each time I enjoy it a bit more. Remember our deeds!”
The memories of his darkside’s doings hit him like a deluge knocking him to floor wracked with pain. Wires extended from the surface of the floor and entwined his extremities pulling him hard into the cold metal.
Voices filled his head each one striking like an archers bolt, “You Betrayed US!” *Click* *Click* *Click* filled the room as hundreds of tiny mechanical roach like creatures poured from the seam between the mirrored wall and the floor, they covered him devouring his skin, a cry of torture tried to flee from his mouth only to be thwarted.
Thin metal strips with nails on each end appeared from nowhere and hovered over his lips, an unseen hammer drove the nails into his upper and lower jawbone sealing his mouth shut. As quickly as they came in the flesh eaters scurried back through the joint they came from. Drone lay tightly bound to the floor looking up at his reflection, blood pooling around him in crimson puddles. Bone, muscle and metal gazed back at him, a power crystal snuggling fitting beneath his ribcage filled the room with a purple glow. The pools of blood seemed to form into faces of his former friends and allies, they all voiced in unison, “You Betrayed US!” and the nothingness came again.
“Always a good read…” The Dark General said to herself. |
