"Your Grace,

I pray this letter finds you in good spirits and health and that all is well with you and yours.

I am replying to your request for a deposition of the character of Dharzhal T'Ar whom you will be defending tomorrow night in Nujel'm. I hope this will be of some use in your defense of the man. You may consider the following as testimony under oath, and thereby my deposition, as a character witness of the man, since I will be unable to attend the trial personally.

I have known Dharzhal for many years. The last few have been they which have completely led me away from typical prejudices humans hold for drow, of which I, like many, have been tainted. Dharzhal has proved himself a man of good heart in his many acts of charitableness and merciful disposition toward those who hate him. He served for several years as the High Priest of the benign goddess Quaestra Concordia, whom many Saints revere and consider our matriarchal deity. To my knowledge he has never formally left her service even though he has, for reasons all his own, accepted the yoke of a lesser, and, admittedly, malicious, deity for the time being.

Whatever he admitted to you is the truth. You may count upon it. I would stake my reputation as a man of honor and a supporter of virtue that he is not lying nor holding anything back for his own sake. He would be the first to tell you that he is not a paragon of morality but that is a commendation of his character and not a flaw. For there are many, and one is his accuser, Lord Thrax, who do claim such honors for themselves, all the while they are reprobates, steeped in misdeeds and moral corruption.

It is my prayer, along with many others, that he will some day remove the yoke that binds him and return entirely to the path of Light. Showing him mercy in this time of duress that he has suffered would be a good start.

My blessings go with you and all those who seek to kindle and preserve the best in all of us, no matter who, or what, we are in the eyes of the world or the law.

My best regards,
Itannar Darkanor
Grand Knight and Paladin of the Lady"
