The chest was visible just above the ground. Lady Godiva had found the correct spot and started digging. As the hunters gathered around, protectors sprang forth from the chest’s place in the ground. The hunters fought off ogre lords, balrons, lich lords and ancient wyrms. The fights were fierce and it took all the concentration of the hunters.
****Socrates and Chandra had found the ruins a while back and discovered their families had come from the same village. Chandra’s grandfather, Althorn Moonfire, had left a map and message in the ruins of a building there. The message had told her that he had buried the family fortune to keep it safe.****
There were a series of maps, each uncovered pieces of Chandra’s family treasures. The treasures that meant the most to her were the books and scrolls written to and from her parents, whom had died shortly after she was born. She opened each one carefully:
A love letter from her father Aldrin, to her mother Feria. He had written he would be bringing home a special bottle of wine for her birthday.
A letter from Socrates’ father Hawthorpe to his mother Arianna mentioning his siblings.
A letter to Chandra’s father Aldrin from Socrates’ father Hawthorpe, thanking him for a party given to celebrate the birth of his son. It mentioned that Hawthorpe had been a scribe and alchemist working in Moonglow.
A diary belonging to Feria, Chandra’s mother. It described the birth of elven twin daughters, Chandra and Xyia. It also had a few lines of concern about a prophecy.
Chandra picked up the last book and shivered. She opened the cover and read:
Darkness will fall upon the village where elven twins are born. Evil of all types will walk the land in search of the twin’s power. Only by reuniting the twins will there be a chance against the coming darkness. They alone cannot defeat the coming evil.
The twins will have to unite with powerful friends to save the elven race and the lesser races of the land.
Only through the guiding light of love will the uniting be possible.
Only through lasting friendships will they prevail against the darkness.
Chandra closed the book and laid it in a chest only she had the key to. She walked to the window and looked out. She wrapped her arms around herself wishing…..as if someone had heard her wish Socrates walked into the room. She smiled, her face showing all the love in her heart. They sat close together. Socrates pulled her into his embrace making Chandra feel safe and cared for.
They spoke of the discoveries left by her grandfather, the letters written by family. How much closer they felt to their families and one another. As they sat looking at the stars they talked about the wedding they would have and what the future might hold. _________________ 'I'll end with an edit to Ditto's post since she obviously doesn't grasp the man code.......................having your sister entertained by another gentleman gives you clearance to entertain their sister without retribution while taking care of mom leads to a blood fued which can only end in death" Gnarlug |
