Mia awoke with feeling that the day was going to bring something unexpected; the feeling was not one of dread by of great excitement. She hurried through her morning chores with a vigor she had not felt in months, sweeping, dusting, cleaning, today was going to present something unexpected and she wanted to be ready. Her mood was infectious, Shasta followed her around sniffing, and giving Mia curious looks, and in a moment of unusual frivolity even chased her tail. Mia couldn’t help herself, laughing at the dogs excited antics. She returned to her duties whistling as she went.

Her morning chores complete, Mia headed to the rooftop garden for her daily meditation, it was going to be hard to concentrate upon the Virtues, but still she’d try. Before beginning, Mia went over to the pigeon coop to check upon the birds, as she did each day, prior to her devotions. Mia was alarmed at the sight of the unknown pigeon lying almost lifeless in the coop; lovingly she removed the bird to check upon its condition, the bird was gaunt and thin, it was obvious that it was exhausted from its long journey. “What brings you so far from home little one?”, the pigeons only reply was a weak “coo.” Mia removed the container from the bird’s leg and dropped it in her pouch, and then placing the tired bird inside her cloak, she hurried downstairs to get it some food and water.

The bird having been cared for, Mia turned her attention to the container it had carried. Prying the two halves apart, she curiously removed the letter it contained, and quickly unfolded it. Mia was shocked, for the script was one she knew well and never expected to see again, the letter was from Lady LaBelle! She read the first line, “Dearest Sister, Our ship is homeward bound and we will be arriving in two week time, weather permitting…….” Mia clutched the letter to her chest, as tears of joy ran down her face, her Lady was coming home!

LaBelle moved through the large room in the Frasier estate. She extended her hand to crank a golden box, the Lady had said played music. Choosing the song of the mother city, she settled to the edge of the bed. To her lap had she a board, quill, ink, and parchment. As the enchanting music played on, she kept time with small nods of her head as she penned this letter to her sister Mia, at The Hall of Paladins:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good Sister,
The Lord Majere and I arrived safely by ship,
into Vesper two nights past. We have acquired
room at the lady Frasier's estate. The room
is large, and abundant with ornaments, as is
the entire estate. It is verily kind she has
made us her guests. This lady however
longs for the simplicity, and sanctuary of
a room at the Hall of Paladins. I should
like to arrange a brief stay on sister. I
shall be attending the Regency meeting
on the morrows eve. I look forward to
seeing you, perhaps if I may,
depart from there to the Hall.
Yours faithfully,
~Lady LaBelle~
Mia reread LaBelle’s letter for the fourth time, hardly believing that her lady was home at last. Her thoughts whirled in her head, there was so much she wanted to say, she could barely contain herself. Taking a deep breath, she dipped the quill into the well of crimson ink and began to write in a fine flowing script upon a parchment of a gold hue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dearest Lady LaBelle,

I pray that this letter finds you and Lord Majere well and in
good spirits. It is good news to hear that you and Lord Majere
have arrived safely ashore in Vesper from your long voyage.
As always, your presents in the Hall of Paladins would be most
welcomed, and accommodations already await your arrival. I
look forward to seeing you on the eve of the Regency meeting,
and until then may the Virtues light the path you follow.

In Service,

-Mia

After the ink had dried, she carefully folded the letter and warming a crimson stick of wax over the writing desks candle, sealed the message. Forgoing the use of the guild seal as to impersonal, she reached into her pouch and removed a ring whose faces depicted a large bird flying through a cloud filled sky, and pressed it into the cooling wax. Mia hurried to the rooftop and removing a pigeon from the coop, quickly placed the letter into a carrier and attached it to the birds leg. Holding the bird in both hands, she kissed it softly on the head, “Fly swift and true, little one”, then released the bird to began its journey.
