A week had passed since he had returned home from his ordeal yet Smiticles was still feeling ill at ease. Since returning home he could not help but notice the considerable changes to the village. The lack of any activity was of concern enough but the changes were greater and more evident than simply not seeing his guildmates.

Brianha's home was now a stable, and Arcana's banner had been removed from her Riverrun manse. Brianha's house was a mystery but Arcana's departure had been expected. These changes were not as troubling as the one change, above all the others, that Smiticles had noticed.

The ALV guildhall had been razed and a new, stone structure now stood in its place. Smiticles wandered across the yard to this new structure but there was little to nothing indentfying the new owner.

"Has the ALV disbanded completely in my absence?" he wondered. The ALV had fallen on hard times prior to his dissapearance. Max had quit over the inquiries into the Brianha and Ceinwyn issue. Smiticles couldn't help but wonder if his dissapearance had been the final straw.

Retreating back to the solitude of his study, he pondered all these developments and more. His thoughts turned to Mallory and, holding one of her love notes in his hands, he was overcome with emotion. By now he knew he should have sought her out but he hadn’t. Very little scared him but the thought that she had most likely moved on in her life filled him with unnerving pain. He came to the conclusion that he would have to find her and confront his fears.
