Not to mention all dragons and such got a boost to AI, and there is now a such thing as "a greater dragon. Like "a greater chicken" and "a greater mongbat" these hit harder and have way more HP.

So... anyone recommend any good websites to find updated info on UO? I'm really still getting back used to things... but I'd definitely like to know if my old gear is useless now, where I can get newer stuff and template builds. Looking over my characters, I've got a tamer, a poison/stealth/dex/mage, a archer/swords, not sure what else. Are mage/dexxers still even useful in PvP or PvE? Already realized that my tamer is gonna need some work, got my butt kicked in Destard hehe. Basically trying to find places I can read up on stuff to make my characters useful vs when they were last played in 2005.

Believe it or not, Stratics (as outdated as it sometimes is) is still the best place for info and advice that I've found. The class-specific forums are actually very helpful for template/gear advice.

I'm not sure how much you're attached to your templates from an RP perspective, but from a PVE perspective the following all seem to be popular for PVM power:

ABC (Archery-Bushido-Chivalry) archer. This template can solo most of the PVM content and isn't as gear dependent as the Sampire (see below).
Sampire/Whammy (generally a Necro/Archer/Chiv hybrid but you can use any weaponskill, although archer is the most powerful for PVM by far). This template can solo pretty much anything, but your gear has to be top-notch and your mastery of your macros has to be second-to-none. Very little room for error if you're soloing the big stuff with this template.
Necro/Mage (undisputed spawn king and supposedly good at PVP if you know what you're doing). This one can't solo "everything" but it's pretty darn powerful. Toss in spellweaving for your Artic Ogre Lord tank pet and you can be pretty tough to kill.

A mage-fighter hybrid is generally looked down upon these days, although Necro+Weaponskill is very good. Most posters on stratics will tell you that poisoning is only marginally useful anymore as PVPers will just drink a pot to get rid of it and many variety of monsters are either outright immune or will cure it. Plus, consider that everyone runs around with either Chivalry, Resists, Magery or Spirit Speak---all of which can minimalize poison.

If you like being sneaky the stealth/ninja/archer or stealth/ninja/necro/dexxer templates are both popular. I love my stealth archer myself.

As for pvp--one of the biggest threats in PVP these days are tamers with uber pets. The stealth archer is also popular for PVP. Be warned that Felluca is still full of speedhackers and that lovely bug that causes your insured items to be lootable sometimes.

The stratics Warrior forums are here:

http://vboards.stratics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=422

They have spellcaster and tamer forums as well. Loads of good template and gear advice on all of them.

Also, not sure if it was this way back when you played last or not, but skilling up most skills is insanely easy now. Resists can go from 0-120 in about 3 hours or less of just standing at a house in Haven, any melee/archer skill can be taken to 120 on a golem in a couple nights worth of playing (even magery can be done this way with the right weapon). Bard skills are easily raised (although barding isn't what it used to be back in 2002 when I quit the last time). Taming seems to be the real pain to raise still and there are a couple of other hard ones, but overall skilling up is much easier. Feel free to ICQ me if you need some more info/advice.

Wow, thanks Kinn. Seriously, resist in 3 hrs? I had been looking at Stratics last night but wasn't sure how updated it was.

The base info on stratics is not that great as far as being up-to-date. The sticky posts on alot of the forums are also not always current info. However, the actual postings in the forums is where you'll get players laying down the up-to-date info and advice.

Resists---Spectral Spellbinders in New Haven. Round up 5-10 of them and lure them to the broken large marble-looking house. Stand in front of the door (or around the corner on the open-aire balcony part) and watch the gains flow in. If the marble is taken (usually has someone on it unless you can get there during off-peak hours) then just round up a bunch and slowly walk ahead of them so they'll cast on you. Works either way. 0-80 in about 45 minutes (or less if you get a bunch and have the spot all to yourself). Slows down a bit after 80 but you can have Gm or even Legendary resists in no time. Heck....you can work parry at the same time if you really wanted to (no weapon, just a shield--you don't wanna kill em).

BTW Kain, I had to put this here. My favorite memory of you years ago in vent is when you went AFK one night, and then called Skylar over to see what you had "done" and how you were proud of "it." I hope you remember what I'm talking about Wink
