I understand the major words being filtered, and have never complained about that. It's when minor words or words that by all right shouldn't be censored are filtered that I get angry.
You could also make the swear filter an option under preferences, I would be happy with that. |

Online-enabled games carry the notice "Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB." This notice warns those who intend to play the game online about possible exposure to chat (text, audio, video) or other types of user-generated content (e.g., maps, skins) that have not been considered in the ESRB rating assignment. |
Let us also not forget that this is a roleplayer specific forum, not an official ultima online forum. If the developers were going to not read this forum because they might get offended then I bet they absolutely melt after reading some of the opinions on Uhall. Also, if a potential member of the community is put off by strong language that your television belches out at a truly sickening rate, I really don't think they'll hold up in a roleplay community at all, especially this one. |

meh really, way i see it is, just use a different word. I hope not to sound insulting, but if you only have one word to say what you mean, expand your vocabulary. Cursing is fun, but relying on it to express something, is well weak.
so what if ass is filtered? are you referring to a mule? than call it a jack-ass? still filtered? CALL IT A MULE!
sorry had a long discussion about the ramifications of making large social changes due to the whims of a few people, when the change is neither truly beneficial to any one, nor the pre-standing ruleset harming anyone. _________________ After all these years, I'm still putting up with Kuja and Vaen? whats wrong with me?

A couple years back we went to the DC town hall. There was a woman there actually bragging that she probably had the only seven year old that played UO. As cute as she thought she was, people regarded her with a quiet sort of horror. Myself included.
As for the in game filter...I find it annoying that I can't call my glass vendor a glass vendor. For the love of the gods. So what's it named? Stone and Blown. Tell me. Which really sounds worse?
For filters on boards? I agree it's a respect thing. |

Maybe not 10 yr olds but my 15 year old daughter plays a bit PVM now and then and I prefer she is not subjected to some stuff more than she already is on the school bus. Yes she has heard it all before....alot from myself really. The point is respect. You should respect that 25 year old who lives in his mother's basement seeking a good life that he doesn't have IRL. Maybe his mom doesn't want him to hear it either. Respect...thats it really _________________ A government must not waiver once it has chosen it's course. Honestly I was raised in a family where it was basically any word goes anytime.
Do I think these boards should be uncensored? No.
Why? For the same reason I wouldn't walk into a job interview and introduce myself by saying "hey, how the f--k is it going boss?" _________________

I think censorship is both a good thing and bad.... i mean at the age of 6 i had heard every swear word going, but the age of 10 understood what they ment, but then i live in england and the watershed on primetime is getting earlier and earlier, the water shed is where programs with voilent/abusive content can not be shown until after a time period, it used to be 10pm, then 9 now i think it is at 8pm.... also there is the content that you see on the news
but yes the sad reality of it is that it is rl things like this happen daily, is wrong to shelter people from it? or is it commen sence to? the ratings for this game in the uk is pg, this means that a 7 year can buy it without a parent with them.... so what can we do? but it all comes down to respecting your fellow players and do onto others what you would like do onto your self.... _________________ cezanna "No, he is a fair and faithful man, Ranna"
