I'll sell her to you. Fifty gold. Great price. You can't beat it.
Truthfully, I've enjoyed the interaction with the guild selling Nightshade. I've been around Cear enough to know there are those who smoke it. It makes for fun rp, especially since Yasa is soooo against it. _________________ (4:45:41 PM) Jarem: It becomes increasingly difficult to feel noble in my causes when my cause is to defend my charge from her own violent tendencies. |

Its true if you stare at Nightshade long enough you will go blind gentlemen, and not from eye strain. *wink wink*
Muscle strain of some sort....
However I digress! I do beleive Nightshade would have different effects from Marijuana, but its up to each individual. Who can say how anyone would react to such.
I know that RPLY I once grew and engineered a Nightshade plant that made you feel almost Euphoric but was so poisonous limbs started falling off the poor pixie. Sad but true... So you see it all makes sense.
You all need to come to Pacific standard time, thats the real time of the world, none of this fake eastern or european stuffs.. _________________ Something is Wrong, I can still feel Existence... |

This matter is serious and deeply offends me and my British Columbian heritage. I'll go unravel a hemp t-shirt and see how you like smoking that. It's like a middle class suburbanite teenager trying to pretend his children's cough syrup is, in fact, just like alcohol.
To the group doing it: This wasn't entirely directed at you, you just reminded me of all the kids who used to go around pretending nightshade is pot. If you get people smoking it and having crazy hallucinations, that'd be badass. I will monitor the IC boards for people flying in SPACE. |

I really detest the argument of "it's a fantasy world". It leaves many things open to a lot of question and opens the flood gates wide for logical fallacies and escalating situations. If we apply "Nightshade is pot because this is a fantasty world and I want it to be" then I can go back to emoting *Bailos banishes you from space and time* "because it's a fantasy world and I want to. I know that it is not the same thing but it sets the stage for my next point.
There are some things we HAVE to accept as a reality and an immutable truth and some things we can allow fantasy to dominate. We HAVE to accept that the world we play in is bound by gravity. Along that same line, we HAVE to accept the definition of Nightshade in the literal sense the game uses. A poisonous, dangerous plant of which it would be a very poor idea to smoke.
The Nightshade in game, is Belladonna. Belladonna is a fruiting plant, all of its parts toxic, most notably the roots. Eating Belladonna berries would be lethal for children and eating a couple dozen would kill a full grown adult. The belladonna leaves themselves, which is the part you would smoke, does indeed contain nicotine like tobacco, but to even an adult, any amount of this smoke would produce symptoms like food poisoning and prolonged (not really all that prolonged actually) exposure or use would most definitely result in death. The roots...well, eating the roots would definitely put you in a body bag.
So how can this be worked around in a fantasy setting? There are merits to the idea that someone could smoke a member of the Nightshade family. Nightshades are in our everyday diet. Tomato is a Nightshade. But this is not what it is used in game.
As a personal suggestion, I would offer that someone wanting to "smoke nightshade", could get around this by perhaps growing their own, and through roleplaying some botany, could engineer a tolerable form a Nightshade to smoke. It is fine to smoke nightshade, Tobacco is a Nightshade. But to state that you are stuffing the in game reagent into your pipe, would flat out kill you. |
