I havent really roleplayed on Atlantic much for about a year now but am considering returning to Roleplaying on the shard and starting a Merc guild. Was wondering what everyone thought about having a rp guild like this in the community? And also if anyone would be interested in putting a character in the guild? All comments and creative ideas welcomed and if anyone would be itnerested in joining a guild like this I can be reached by Icq at 437702149.. the basic Idea of the guild would be guild for hire say as guards or an army if needed.

Merc guilds are always fun. I say do it. But if you get good at PvP, or if you are good at PvP, you may face hardships.

We've had them in the past, some did well others did not.

I think the amount of RP they can produce is promising, they bring a good and realistic element to game. BKD for example headed by Arlin I was always very fond of while I myself never was a member.

The problem arises when the RP element comes secondary to the PvP element, things have to be controlled and rules have to be put into place and observed but I'd like to see a decent Merc. Company around the current scene.

Mercenary companies are wonderful but there becomes one fatal flaw...
This might hurt your head so brace...

By standing for not standing for anything, they really do stand for nothing.

So what did I just say? Since mercenary guilds are based on being for hire and not caring about anything else but money, they lose a lot of initial depth in that they have no real unique gimmick or creed. This can be overcome with quite a bit of work...but its my theory as to why there are no long lasting Mercenary guilds.

Something to think about.

To put into Lamens terms from what Bailos said...People who don't care who they kill/fight/maim/pillage, whatever. The person who hired you yesterday could be the person you're fighting today. Poeple without a set of values and morals.

Reference : Kujas Alignment Post

IMO, a Merc guild would either be Pure Neutral "Undecided", or Chaotic Neutral.

I was in a merc guild, but the guildleader (Best friend irl), isn't exactly...Someone who follows through with things, so it kind of just fell apart. Merc guilds are fun, but the problem is finding people who hire you, since PvP(Since I was last in the "scene"), is taboo. But then again, mercenaries don't exactly have work to do everyday. They do have alot of sitting around time.

Ya...alot of it is based on pvp. cause your always fighter (usually..unless your transporting somethin)...but alot of guilds in this community will shun you or decide not to rp with you if you consistantly win.

If you can find a way to rp alot as a merc and less pvp..and fit pvp in every once in a while..than some people should be happy..

Lemme know what your plans are.

But, at the same time, some may be open to you. I was just goin through the sage tower, and came across Evinyatars RP post

If you're new the the community, and thinking of starting a guild or helping create one, thats a good set of ideas to be constantly thinking about. I know I don't RP anymore, but that doesnt mean my opinions invalid! Razz

Edit: The post by Beleth mentioned in Evins post is Here

This is very true. I've personally tried this with Rosar (Should anyone remember him and our Consortium Militaris). Anyway, We had it working not so terribly bad with a hint of good. Get in touch with me. I'll see if I can't help you, and I might have a character for you in the future. (I LOVE the merc idea, btw. One of my favorties I have ever tried).

The Black Dogs can never be copied. There has never been a better group of mercenary roleplayers and PvPers on Atlantic.

However, if you are serious, PM me. I can tell you what made the guild great, and what nonsense you will face.

In reference to what Lucian said on the alignments... Mercenarcies can pull of Nuetral Evil too... That would be the entire basis of their motives is personal gain. I think that is the most fitting, actually.

Merc Guilds have always been great ideas. But any guild who's focus revolves around fighting just gets $hit on by people. There are alot of examples in history of awesome guilds that disappeared cause all they got was $hit from a good majority of the community.

Welp I just wanted to drop in give an update for everyone that might have an interest in this idea. It seems RL life and of comittments will keep me from getting an RP merc guild off the ground right now so for now me running on is on hold but if someone wants to take up the idea and run with it Im all for it and would join the guild as well but afraid I'll only be able to be in UO one or two day at a time for the forseeable future. So just giving everyone a heads up on whats going on and if anyone wants to make a Merc guild I wish them the best of luck and give me a hollar if you do, hopefully down the road I'll get a chance to revisit this and actually get it rolling once my time frees up.
