Eowyn woke up, but didn't open her eyes. Her head ached. She was not at her house, she could tell that much. Where was she? Finally she dared to open her eyes. The bright light of late morning streamed through the windows, aggrivating her headache even more. She managed to keep her eyes open a bit and look around. The room looked familiar, but that was about it. She heard a bit of commotion downstairs, but something told her that it was not anything to be alarmed about. There came footsteps on the stairs, which felt like kettle drums in Eowyn's head. She almost began to believe that she had a hangover, but didn't remember drinking. The door opened and in came someone familiar, but Eowyn's head was still cloudy. She moaned and put her hands over her face.

"Oh, good, you're awake," the person said as she sat on the bed next to Eowyn. "I was getting worried that you would not awaken. How do you feel?"

Eowyn moaned again and rubbed her eyes. "Where am I?" she asked, trying to be quiet.

"Your at my villa, Eowyn. Shhhh.. Just rest. Here, drink this," the lady said, helping Eowyn lift her head and shoulders, then offering her some pleasantly hot liquid from a shadow pewter mug.

Eowyn lowered her hands and drank the potent liquid, which seemed to clear her head.

"What happened?" she asked.

"Do you remember anything about the past couple weeks?"

Eowyn tried to think, but shook her head. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the lady again, her mind beginning to clear some more.

"Govan? Is that you?"

Govan smiled, glad her sister recognized her again. "Yes, dear Eowyn. It's me."

"Oooooh.. What a trip.. Now I'm beginning to remember."

"Tell me."

"I woke up at Aneirin's and my place, but I didn't recognize it, or remember who I was. Aneirin and Cynan were out for some father and son time. I got some different clothes out of my chest, not knowing it was mine, and headed downstairs, where DumbLlama made a ruckus at the stable door until he was let out so he could follow me. I remember looking through my runebooks and going to Sanctus. I saw a few people, but didn't recognize them. I went in and sat down at one of the tables. After a while someone came in... Oh, who was it?... Oh.. It was Vaen.. Vaen had remembered me and came over and greeted me. He let me know what my name was and seemed concerned that I had lost my memory... It seems to be some sort of plauge or something.... No... it was something else... ow." She held her pounding head between her hands, massaging her temples with the heals of her palms. "Anyways, he spent some time with me, trying to cure me.. After a while he had to leave, and I went searching my runes for something familiar.. I came here, then to the workshop in Malas. I guess all our crafting friends were out and about, as was Ainfean, because nobody was there either. I went back to Sanctus, and there were a few more people, who also recognized me and tried to figure out ways to cure me, yet still nothing worked. I grew very tired and went back to the workshop. I don't remember much from there."

Govan nodded. "I returned from an errand and Daishi and Raven told me that you had been by while they were still sparring, which is what all the noise is from downstairs, them still sparring. Anyways, you had seemed lost, not recognizing anything, or that they were friendly, so I went out looking for you. I found news of you in Sanctus after searching your home. Afterwards, I found you at the workshop, where you were laying down, resting. I convinced you to come here again, so you would be safe. You have been asleep for... let's see.. about a week."

"Did I.... drink... while I had lost my memory, do you know? Feels like I've got a doosy of a hangover."

"I do not believe you did.. but the treatment I gave you could be some of the cause," Govan replied as she lifted a cloth from a bowl that was on the nightstand and rang it out. "Just rest. This should help." She put the cool, wet cloth over Eowyn's eyes.

"Treatment? Did you find something for the memory loss?" Eowyn asked.

"No, not really. You seemed so stressed and confused when you were here, so I made some tea to help you rest, hoping that the memory loss was just temporary, or at least you could rest while I try to find an answer. It was a temporary solution at best."

Eowyn nodded and rested, just glad it was all over, at least for now.

Govan continued to care for Eowyn as Eowyn recovered over the few days. Soon, Eowyn was back to her usual duties, but hoping that there would soon be an end to the rashes of memory loss.

Govan sat at her desk, looking over some notes she had written over the past couple weeks. Something had caused Eowyn to lose her memory, and she had been somehow cured between the time Govan had her come to the villa and when she woke up a week later. Govan had had a conference with Charis and Aisling to see if she missed something. They went over everything they did to care for Eowyn during that week, and anything that has happened with her since. They had let Aneirin, Eowyn's husband, know what was going on, and had had Eowyn stay at the villa until they could be sure that her condition was not contagious, and that she really was cured. Eowyn still had a few times where she occassionally dazed off, almost as if she was sleeping with her eyes open. So, what was it that caused her to regain her memory, yet still cause her mind to shut down occassionally, if each had the same cause. Govan sighed and tried to go over all the events again, in her mind...

She had found Eowyn at their crafters' workshop, half-asleep. After making sure she was awake, Govan managed to convince her that she was a friend and to use the rune Eowyn had to Govan's villa. Govan had made sure to call off the searches begun in Sanctus, and recalled home herself, where she found that Charis had come home and was comforting Eowyn, who seemed nervous, confused, and quite stressed, not seeming to know Charis, Govan, Govan's pets, or the villa itself. Govan put some water on, in the fireplace, to heat up. They then gently escorted Eowyn upstairs, where it was a little quieter and she wouldn't have a white wyrm and a nightmare watching her. The quiet, calm atmosphere of the bedroom seemed to ease Eowyn's mind some. They had her lay down and rest, but she was still uneasy about everything, especially about the fire-bird who stood on the perch on the headboard. Charis sat down in the nearby chair, and started playing a soothing melody on the harp next to it. Govan went downstairs to make some tea to help Eowyn relax. After Eowyn drank the warm, pleasant-smelling tea, when Govan brought it up, she soon drifted off to a deep sleep. During the week that followed, Govan and Charis took turns watching over her and giving her water occassionally, to be sure she did not become dehydrated. On the morning when Eowyn awoke, Govan had been downstairs for a bit to make a different tea for Eowyn, one that usually helps clear one's mind and return a bit of strength. It seemed to work when, later, she was able to have Eowyn drink it.

What was it then? The tea? The music and tea? Or perhaps it was everything.. the music and tea to relax Eowyn's mind, the sleep to give it some rest, then the other tea to help get her back on her feet again. The only way to find out, Govan finally decided, is to try it on another victim. She would keep her ears open for another victim, and try it all again. Perhaps Eowyn's dazing episodes was only her mind still trying to get back on track. Only time would tell. Govan heated some water and made some of each of the teas, then put each in a canteen of its own. She then told Charis and Aisling of her thoughts, and let them know which canteen was which, just in case the same thing happened to Govan, or any of them, or anybody they knew.
