Claudette was very surprised to see Drayden standing by her door as she rode up to her house. She smiled at him and he too greeted her warmly. It had been quite some time since she had last seen him, he had been quite ill then and had pretty much disappeared. Claudette wondered what had happened to him but assumed that he and Lady Alessandra had gone elsewhere to start a life together. He belonged with lady Alessandra and she had made peace with that long ago.

She was glad to see that Drayden was healthy once again. As she welcomed him into her home, they began to talk about everything that had transpired since his departure. She asked him about Alessandra and he told her that he had not heard from her and that he worried for her safety. Claudette sincerely hoped she was okay and that Drayden would find her once again. She then told him about Vaen and how much he had changed. Retelling the story of how he had beaten Brianha was hard for Claudette but she knew Drayden needed to know the situation. He seemed quite surprised as she recounted how Vaen wouldn’t let her see Brianha and even attacked her when she tried to force her way into the house. It was hard for both of them to believe that their friend had changed so much but it was the sad truth. Vaen was no longer the kind, gentle and funny friend they had once known; instead he was heartless and uncaring.

Claudette then told Drayden about the mess Brianha now found herself in. How she had tried to help Vaen and by doing so had gotten herself in a lot of danger. He was surprised to hear that she was now also a member of the Order. Claudette shared her concerns and fears with him. She told him that she had a feeling the darkness was slowly creeping into Brianha’s mind and that she didn’t know what she could do to help her. Drayden reassured Claudette that they would get to the bottom of it and somehow find a way to help her. She felt comforted by this perhaps because he had helped them both in the past. As Drayden stood up and walked towards the door on his way to find Alessandra, he waved and said “goodbye old friend.” Smiling at the word “friend”, Claudette saw him out and wished him a safe journey.

Claudette then walked up to her garden and settled herself in one of her new elven chairs. It was then that she allowed herself to feel the pain in her heart. She thought about Melior and how it had been so long since they’d been together. How she longed to talk to him about all the things that were going on in her life and how she hadn’t yet received a reply to the last letter she had written him. She realized that at this point, Drayden knew more than Melior did and it made her sad as she thought about it. She wished it could be Melior that was there listening to her concerns and providing her with comfort, but alas his duties kept him too busy and so all she could do was miss him and hope that he would be safe.
