[Little belated I had a bit of an issue while writing it]
Lori sat in the tavern of the Garden in one of the chairs by the fireplace, curled up as tightly as she could. The pains in her stomach would not go away as she stared blankly into the emptiness around her. She felt as empty inside as the tavern was around her. Her heart sank every time she looked up hoping to see him there, hoping it had all been a dream. She was unsure of what was to come, unsure if she should believe his words or what she had seen with her own two eyes.
She closed her eyes tightly trying to see his face, her hands tightly clutching to the peices of his beard that Rryn had given her. She brushed it against her cheek gently as the tears began to roll from her eyes again. She hadnt moved from her spot in days, thinking only of what she had seen and the emptiness that seemed to consume her farther. She felt more alone now than when her real father had left this world, at least as far as she was aware.
She pulled a cookie from the pocket of her dress and stared at it breifly before crumbling it onto the floor. The fire had long been burnt down to ashes, and she felt chilled slightly by the knight air, but she didnt care. Sleeping seemed pointless, she knew if that she fell asleep, she didnt want to wake up. Her heart sinking further as what she felt as a nightmare continued. _________________

It was late in the night, long after all had left the Garden. Vito and Dan had blown out most of the lanterns, with a single lantern spotlighting a battered instrument case set upon an equally battered stool in the center of the floor.
He had waited until he was sure the night crew had retired before he approached from the other side of the room. As he passed by the instrument case a bleeding hand with paled green gaelic runes on the back reached out and took the battered case.
His feet were bare, and the soles left bloody footprints across the wooden floorboards. The purpose of his journey became apparent when he kneeled down in front of his favorite reading chair.
There nestled deep into the plush cushions and pillows was Lorilli Madrie. He gently nudged her foot with his instrument case.
“Lori, me love, wake up. We dinna hae much time, an’ I hae miles ta’ go afore I sleep, again.”
“That yous papa bear” she mumbled sleepily.
“Aye it is me poppin, come on wake ye up a bit.”
“Me dearest love, I ken tha’ yuir heart is breakin’ an’ tha’ ye are most likely verra confused right now. Howe’er, tis like I told ye tha’ other night. Tis of a certain tha’ I ceased livin’ tha’ other night. Tis a kind o’ magick.”
He coughs and the shadows lit only by the banked coals of the fire blurred and one instant he was kneeling, the next he had hit his forehead on the stone of the fireplace. She screamed and tried to help him up. He feebly tried to assure he was fine, but heard her gasp when she pulled her hand back from his forehead covered in blood.
“I want ta’ show ye somethin’ love. Pass me yuir other hand and place the messy one on tha’ floor.”
He took her small trembling hand and placed it inside his shirt and onto his heartstone. Immediately ley lines sprang up all around them. The floors criss-crossed with glowing lines of manna.
She stared around with a child’s innocent joy and pure amazement, then she looked up to him for reassurance.
“Tis okay, love. This has been the result o’ me research. I hae bled me own power an’ energy inta’ this verra building. But I need tha’ energy ta’ fix a wrong.”
Takes her hand from his heartstone and kisses it gently.
“Do ye undertstand? In order ta’ bring back yuir brother, I hae ta, take all this energy back at once.”
Lorilli nodded slightly attempting to understand everything that was happening, trying to make sense of something that a child cannot grasp.."A...Are you sure its safes? I means, for thems and you?"
“I canna promise ye it wi’ be safe for me, but I can promise ye, ye wi’ hae yuir brother. Howe’er, after what happens. I need ye ta’ hide me for a wee bit and ta’ no let anyone know ye are hidin’ me. Can ye do tha’ for me?”
Lorilli nodded slowly and reached into her bag pulling out her long lost fathers runebook handing it to him..."First ones in theres no ones find you theres, no ones knows its secrets place, but I cants open the gates myselfs"
“Dinna ye worry about it. Ye hold on ta’ tha’ book until it happens. Ye will be able ta’ find me.”
He leans in kissing her brow and when he leans back a pale green line links him to her.
“Now, go wake Tai in the dojo downstairs, an’ tell him ye heard strange noises in tha’ crystals oot front.”
She turned back before stepping on the magic portal to the floor of the dojo. The man was struggling to right himself and fell against the mantel, tearing a gash above his left eye.
Biting her lip she looks to the teleporter then back to him, she rushes over to him to help him stand, her mind racing with fear and confusion while starting to grasp what was going on. She looks at him for a moment before knowing what she has to do. She leaning down pressing her hand into the ash of the fire. She closes her eyes from the pain in her hand as she pulls it out and wraps it in her dress, screaming she rushes to the portal.
Still whimpering and screaming from the pain, she runs full tilt into Tai kneeling in desai position in the dojo. It was as if she had run into a stone wall. As she falls backward, one hand catches her.
“Lori-san! What is wrong?”
Lorilli shows him her hand still holding it somewhat wrapped in her skirt. "I hurts it, sees"
Tai, grabs her up and runs to the crystals in front of the Garden.
Gently setting her down between his legs he draws the Otori blade of honor and hacks off a chunk of the crystal.
“Lori-san, if you rub this on your burn, it will take away the pain and heal.”
She takes the peice of crystal nodding slightly the tears streaming down her face as she rubs the crystal against her hand slowly.
A gate is opened on the upper floor of the Garden Freehold.
“Oy! Tai-san, be sure an’ take tha’ lass a wee bit oot of me way.”
Tai looked up sees a feverish pale green glowing highlander swaying in the open gate on the tavern floor of the Garden Freehold.
“Hugh-san, stand down it cannot be that bad!”
“Wee lad, show me tha’ black staff tha’ Zeron gave ye this eventide.”
Tai equips the new weapon and staggers back holding Lorilli in his arms as he backs up under the ceaseless barrage of explosions.
Lorrilli leans into Tai’s chest, hiding her eyes from the magery. She notices Tai is straining to protect herself and him from the explosions. Before they notice, they are halfway to Luna.
Tai sets her down.
“This does not bode well.”
Tai cradles her as several shockwaves from a barrage of earthquakes batter at his defense.
By the time Tai had run back to the Garden cradling her in his arms there was nothing left but a glowing piles of debris. _________________ "He's been fired from the Shrimp Boat?" -- Charlaine Harris "Living Dead In Dallas." |

Tatiana stared at the rubble, all that remained of Mr. Poet' s wonderful garden. She could not believe it was destroyed. It was a sad enough day to lose Mr. Poet, and then to lose his tavern too, the place she had run to for refuge many times. With tears streaming down her cheeks she carefully tacks a sign to the remains of the tavern:
CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Maybe Mr. Tai would rebuild the tavern. She could only hope so.
Glancing back one last time, praying no one had been hurt and with a weary heart she made more notices on parchment. She left the smoldering ruins and went to other places to leave notices where people would be sure to see them, the banks, Hanse's, Candlelight Inn, Mr Vaen's. . . . . _________________ aka: Tatiana Thorn nee Alexi; Summer Kane; Ivory Skyfire; and others |

Mallory returned to the Garden after her daily trip to town. She had been running late since she had decided to stop at the shrine of Spirituality. Since Mister Leshok had shown it to her, she had used it as a refuge. She was becoming more and more confused lately and it seemed that there her mind was at peace and she was able to bring the things into focus that were important. She had lost the only man she had known as a father figure. She was crushed, for she had often hoped and dreamed that when she married it would be him there by her side giving her away, but now none of that mattered. She would give anything for one more of his songs or poems. Granted she didn't always understand them, but they always could make her smile. She clung tightly to the book he had given her last Christmas, with his poems and stories. Lately he had seemed unlike himself, and she blamed herself for being away and not being at his aid when he needed her. She had been so caught up in herself... When she returned home she was shocked to see it crumbling in ashes. She fell to her knees and sobbed in disbelief. First her papa bear and now The Garden, her home... she prayed that no one had been in there, and vowed to seek justice on those responsible for such horrid acts. She moved about the now cool ashes and looked for any sign of who was responsible and any artifacts of her papa bear. Upon finding nothing remaining, she swept the soot from her skirt and made her way to Luna with hopes of finding new work and a place to live. _________________ Good friends are like stars. William heard that Poet has died while he was at the festival in disguise. Poet was a teacher and good friend to William when he was under him in the Brotherhood. William had many regrets when he was on the dark path except the people he met and Poet was one of them. Poet has taught Will many things about life, leadership, and warfare. William will miss his good friend and teacher Silent Poet. |
