Taking a deep breath, Vaen quietly walked into the Destard Dungeon. Having no luck finding Valatin and Rachel in the depths of Deceit, he decided to try his luck here.
All of the dragons in the area seemed to be sleeping. Of course they would be, it was late at night. Vaen had planned this from the beginning. He looked around the area, and quietly made his way to the middle of the room. Glancing around, out of curiosity, he started counting the dragons.
In his mind, he kept count. "One... two... three ..... ...... Twenty one, twenty two, twenty three.......... Fifty seven, fifty eight, fifty nine...."
Vaen shook his head. There were too many to count. But they were all asleep. Luckily for him.
His heart beating faster than it ever has before, Vaen continued to quietly move his way around the sleeping beasts, making his way to the small pond inside the dungeon. He bent down and moved his hand along the water.
"Psst..." said a familiar voice. Vaen turned to it. It was a figure of a wraith. Vaen didn't know what to make of it.
"I just thought that I'd let you know...." the voice continued to whisper, "... I'm back."
Vaen gave the figure a confused look, but it only moved backwards towards the entrance of the dungeon. The figure then disappeared. He had no idea who this figure was, or why this figure was even gone in the first place. Shrugging it off a little, Vaen turned back towards the pond. "Where would they be if they came in here..." he thought to himself.
"Psst..." the familiar voice was back. Vaen turned to it.
"What do you want?" Vaen whispered.
"To see you run." The voice said in a louder voice than normal. Vaen looked around and saw some of the dragons shift in their sleep, but not waking from their sleep.
"Ssshhh!" Vaen tried to quiet the figure.
"Nay!" said the figure in a louder voice. "RUN, Swiftar!" the voice yelled, and then the figure disappeared.
Vaen looked around, and to his right, one of the dragons woke up. The dragon looked down at Vaen and Vaen was frozen in place. He thought that if he didn't move, the dragon would not pay attention to him. This, however, was not the case.
Angered after being awoken from its sleep, the Dragon roared louder than Vaen has ever heard a Dragon roar. This upset the other dragons in the area, as they all woke from their sleep, making the same loud, upsetting roar that the first one made. Vaen did not waste any time. He ran quickly to his right but was quickly swept up by a dragon's tail, knocking him down. Bouncing right back up, Vaen ran as fast as he could once again towards the entrance. The roars of the dragons got only louder as they echo'd in the dungeon.
Vaen continued to run as fast as he could. ducking under the tails of dragons and the breaths of fire being flown around. The area was lit up; it was almost as if Vaen was outside, with the amount of fire balls flying around the area.
Being only ten paces from the entrance, Vaen thought he had it. Just before he could reach the entrance, however, the tail of a dragon hit him hard on his left side, sending Vaen flying high into the air. Looking down as he was heading up, he could see the mouths of at least seven dragons, waiting for him to fall. Vaen looked up as he was accelerating upwards still. As he reached the ceilling, he grabbed on to a stalactite and hung on. Looking down, the dragons seemed to be getting impatient. Again, the fireballs raged towards him. Vaen propelled himself to another stalactite, and continued to swing as the fireballs shot up.
"How the hell am I going to survive this..." Vaen thought to himself. He continued to propel himself from stalactite to stalactite. Looking down again, the dragons were following him, all eager to rip him limb from limb. Vaen looked to the north west part of the area and noticed a very large stalagmite in which he may be able to slide down on. Picking out his path very carefully, Vaen continued to propel himself from stalactite to stalactite, making his way to the stalagmite. Fireballs were still landing too close for comfort, as he could feal the immense heat they gave off as they flew by him. Jumping to the stalagmite, Vaen began to slide down. Looking down, he saw the Dragons made it over there quicker than he had anticipated. He tried to stop his sliding, but he couldn't. He was heading faster towards their open mouths as they roared in hunger.
Vaen closed his eyes as he got near their mouths and jumped from the stalagmite, sliding down one of the Dragon's backs, and quickly bolted for the entrance. The dragons were right behind him. He could feel the ground shake as they stampeded towards him. He was so close to the entrance. He could see the moonlight ouside. Running faster, he felt as though he was going to collapse at any moment. "So close, it's right there!" He could see the entrance not more than five seconds worth of running infront of him. He looked to his left and he saw another dragon moving to intercept him. Vaen closed his eyes tight and pushed himself to run faster. The dragon moving to intercept him also tried moving faster.
"Oh, no..." Vaen thought, "I'm not going to make it..."
The Dragon moving to intercept him slid its way infront of the entrance, nearly blocking all of it. Vaen grabbed for his kryss and jumped onto the Dragon's back and began savagely piercing its skin with it, causing the dragon to shift in pain. Grabbing for his kryss, Vaen immediately jumped outside the Dungeon and ran around a corner.
The dragons roared in anger, as their midnight snack got away. Vaen just sat there, staring forward, sweating profusely, realizing that he was only seconds away from being eaten numerous times. He shook his head. He had to find his friends. Even at such a cost. _________________
