To His Lordship, the Regent of Britannia:
We have your wife. Demands will follow. Meet them immediately once given or she dies. Try nothing, or she will suffer.

Tai was meditating in his temple when he heard a noise at the window. He stood up and walked over to the window and opened it.
In flew a speckled raven that very much resembled the one that Lady Ivae uses. It hopped up on Tai's shoulder and pecked and scratched at his braids while cawing loudly and in an excited manner.

Rryn began pacing the foyer of her family home. Many hours had passed since the hour that Lady Ivae had said she would return.
She peeked into the nursery to see her niece and Mirima Z'ress playing happily on the fur rug. The ever watchful nanny,Shueri , laughing quietly with them. She caught the eye of the nanny who quietly stood and walked over to Rryn.
"It is well past the time she said she would return." Rryn spoke to her.
" This is not at all like her to not send word that she was detained. I must see if I can send out someone to be sure she is alright."
The nanny nodded to her and said she would keep the children occupied.
Rryn left in search of Ivae and went to the Garden. Poet stated he had not seen her since earlier that day when she had been out shopping and thought it strange she did not have her guard with her. Concern flooded Rryn. Ivae had gotten past her guard ..again. She quickly spoke with Takeda Shingen and sent him out to search for her. She then went to the guard barracks and ordered two guards immediately dispatched to her home to guard the children. Now the hard part. She must inform Tai...
This was not going to be a pleasant evening...... |

Tai arrived at the Garden and ran to the teleporter to the tavern area. He quickly scanned the room, but did not see either Lady Ivae or Lady Rryn.
"Has anyone seen the wife of the Lord Regent tonight," he asked.
There was some mumblings and then after much discussion it was determined that perhaps Silent Poet had seen her without her escort earlier.
This was very vexing. Tai was sure he had assigned Lord Shingen to be her guard and escort. If he was not with her, then perhaps he had fallen. But that did not make sense. If he had fallen, she would not be out shopping would she?
Tai sat there trying to figure out what was going on, and the speckled raven continued to frantically peck at his braids.
About that time, the Lady Rryn walked in. _________________ "He's been fired from the Shrimp Boat?" -- Charlaine Harris "Living Dead In Dallas." |

Rryn quickly assessed the security in the house and made ready to search for Tai. A young ronin was announced at her door and she quickly met with him to find Tai was looking for her at the Freehold Garden and that she should come quickly.
"So he is aware there is something amiss already" she thought quietly to herself.
She sent the ronin to the kitchen to eat and rest before he was sent out on patrol again. Summoning her mount she swiftly left the house and headed for the Garden.
Arriving she was quickly taken aside by Tai and asked if Ivae had arrived to get Mirima. When Rryn shook her head, he clenched his fist and cursed quietly under his breath. She quickly explained her security measures were in place at the house to watch the child and she had sent the ronin scouts out in search already.
Many were at the Garden that night and had heard of the dissapearance as the guards wandered in and were sent to their post with strict orders to search everywhere. There was naught to be done till they recieved either a message from the Lady Ivae herself of her well-being, or baring worse , a note from whoever had her. |

Shingen’s mind was not at ease. That night he did not sleep as advised to do by Lady Rryn. He knew he had failed his duty.
The day started as any other. Shingen reported for duty and was assigned to stand guard to Lady Ivae. He knew this would be difficult, as he had come to expect Lady Ivae to wander. With the regent away on travel he knew keeping an eye on Ivae would be more difficult then usual.
Shingen followed her from a distance as she dropped her daughter at Lady Rryn’s home. Upon leaving Rryn’s home Ivae went to Luna to engage in her usual shopping and socializing. Everything was as it usually was. For Shingen there was no concern.
Ivae would come and go without being seen throughout the day.
At dusk Lady Ivae was nowhere to be seen. Shingen knew though that this was the arranged time she was to pick up her daughter. Without worry he decided his work was done and went to the garden to relax. It was a good crowd; Vito was serving up the drinks in his usual manner. All in all, it was a typical day.
When Lady Rryn entered the garden this typical day quickly became anything but. She immediately questioned Shingen about Lady Ivae’s whereabouts. The questioning stunned Shingen, he had expected that Ivae would be safely at home with her daughter by now.
Retracing the day’s events and talking it over with Lady Rryn, Shingen remembered of her talking of visiting Umbra. Rryn told him to search Umbra immediately. Shingen got on his mount. Following close behind was Aliena, a woman he had just met that evening. She emphatically stated that she would help with the search. With no time to spare Shingen rode off to Umbra to search.
Aliena and Shingen divided the city and each searched their respective halves. Umbra was dark as usual with the smell of fresh blood in the air. It is a place that always brings about wonder to Shingen.
As the search came to an end without any sign of Ivae the reality of the situation became clear to Shingen. He knew he had failed.
He told his feelings to Aliena and said “my life is over, I have no more honor in the eyes of my Sensei.” Aliena grabbed him be the collar and said “your life is not over”. Shingen said we must go and inform Lady Rryn that she was not found.
They rode as quickly as they could to the home of Lady Rryn. She had guards posted and was deep in meditation. Not wanting to awaken her from the meditation Shingen and Aliena went to the upstairs garden and talked. The talk went through Shingen as his mind was filled with despair. He knew he would have to face the Regent and Sensei.
Lady Rryn entered the room with the look of already knowing what Shingen had to tell her. He did not have to explain. She simply said “go home and get rest you will need it.” |
