The sea was anything but peaceful as the storm raged into the night.

Walls of wind and roiling waves buffeted the side of the large trade ship, as torrents of rain battered her decks from the sky. A short distance away were two more ships, suffering the same fate as they battled to keep up with the merchants.
The crew skidded about the deck of the ship in a panicked frenzy, half of them trying to keep the ship afloat, the other half hurriedly preparing for combat. Color and calmness had faded from every face of the crew, save for one whom seemed more interested in his tightly gripped parchment than the captain of the ship who tried to yell at him above the winds.

What'n the hell kinda navigator do ye think ye are?! First ye guided us right inta pirates, and iff'n that wasn' enough ye guided us right inta a storm!
Ah swear to tha gods above if we survive this i'll be throwin ye off the ship meself!

Addoroth glanced to the man with brilliant red eyes that cut through the rain. It might have seemed a flicker of annoyance if the red robed figure's focus hadn't seemed so above even that. He pulled at the large wooden wheel, adjusting the course of the ship into yet another oncoming wave. His eyes looked back to the chart he grasped, insuring that his correction was in fact correct as he spoke in turn to the captain.

I told you from the beginning there would be trouble Captain, and that I would get you through it. That is why you took me on. Now if you don't mind...It is rather difficult to see the stars in this weather, and I'm making adjustments on nothing but former observations. It is tedious enough without your blathering.

The Captain sneered at him angrily, and had the situation been different might have sought to punish the man, but for the time being seemed content to stop talking to him. He hurried off and started bellowing orders at the someone else.

The man at the helm smiled to himself, though it quickly faded as pain shot through him, causing him to grip the wheel tightly to keep from faltering.
Peering upwards instinctively, Addoroth narrowed his eyes in a mixture of confusion and surprise. For the briefest of moments the clouds had parted, and what he could swear he had seen was...not what he expected.

He glanced over his shoulder at the ships that had been trailing them. It would bring them close..extremely close...but he knew better than to ignore a sign.

Looking to the wheel once more, his grip tightened and pulled with force, the ship nearly toppling as it sharply cut starboard.

Pulling through the turn brought the old merchant ship face to face with a large rolling wave, raising them into the air like a great whale out of water. Their peaceful journey toward the heavens was short lived however, as they came crashing back down to reality.

More than a few members the crew nearly fell overboard, Addoroth was ecstatic.

Focusing back to the task at hand, it didn't take long to locate their pursuers once more. Much as he'd predicted, they knew just as well as he how damaging the change in course had been to their potential escape, and they were racing to take full advantage of that knowledge. Taking the situation into account, odds were the pirates' goal would be to catch up and raid the ship by force. Trying to fire on the merchant ship in this weather would be difficult, and if they damaged the ship in any critical fashion, there was no way they'd be able to recover its cargo before these waves sank the ship.

Out of the corner of his eye, another prediction was coming true as the captain drew a sword and charged him in a rage.

Ya Killed us! ye stupid bastard!

We'd a made it to Serpents 'old afore they evar caught up!

Get away from tha' wheel!

Taking three steps back from the wheel, the man in red stood straight like a perfect soldier, saluting his angry captain and shouting clearly.

Aye! Captain.

It seemed that the captain was truly angry this time, as he seemed more intent on running the man through than actually taking over the helm.
Before he could reach him however, with his sword held high, glinting in the rain, the man in red threw his fist forward in a flourish, shouting an incantation.

Ort Por Ylem!

The captain did his best to skid to a stop on the slippery decks, his eyes wide in surprise as his sword spiraled off into the waves. A moment of defenseless stupidity came over him, only to be interrupted as the man before him fluidly drew a shield from his back, bashing him across the face with it.

He spun and collapsed upon the wheel, blood dribbling from the corner of his mouth. He wanted to bring his hand to his face, to wipe the blood away before he crushed the skull of his attacker. Unfortunately, it was only then he discovered his inability to move, his body unresponsive, gripping the wheel in perfect paralysis.

Behind him, Addoroth was replacing the shield on his back, speaking to the Captain quietly.

Keep her straight, our new heading is Trinsic.

We're going home to Kaane, Captain

************************************************************************************************************************************

Within minutes, the man in red was dangling from the rigging of the near by mast, the wind whipping at his clothes as he swung his spyglass to and fro.

Kaane was close, and his pursuers were closer.

Ultimately it was ideal, to return home and have a means of properly signaling his kin. All he had to do was hold them off long enough.

His lips formed a smile as his red eyes flared, disappearing from the ship amidst the flashes of the stormy skies.
