It had been three days since his mother had held a family meeting in this place. She had spoke of this place to all in the family. But Korin knew it was only him that heard the pride in her voice. He once again walked up to the well of souls. Walking with a purpose he took the steps and approached the edge, removing his helm he peered over the edge. Hopeful this time he would see the familiar face's that he so longed to see. Staring deep into the blackness standing perfectly still. Korin began to see shapes swirling far below. Only shapes not the faces of those he so longed to see once again. Afraid to even blink he stood watching, wishing. Trying as hard as he could he could no longer control his emotions. His eyes brimed and two tears rolled down his cheek. They formed into ice before falling into the well to be lost forever. Wiping his face in his sleeve Korin remained standing and watching. Hours passed and with a great sigh Korin turned and stepped away from the edge of the well. The disappointment turning to emptiness, Korin gathered the cold from the land around him and turned it inward. It was a futile attempt, for as many times in the past Korin had tried this same attempt to freeze out his feelings they always managed to come back.
Mounting his horse Korin looked back at the well and muttered the words “I am sorry”.
