Half a day. Maybe less. That's how long Cuth guessed the boat had been docked - or at least tied off to something. The rocking of the ship and the sounds of the waves against the hull were not the same now as when he knew they were actively sailing. The water was now hitting the boat directly against the side of the hull - this made an altogether different sound then when the ship's bow was cutting through the waves. Instead of the boat moving through the water, the water was lapping up against the boat, meaning the boat must be stationary - tied off to something or docked in a slip in a harbor. Of course this was all guess work - locked down in the hull Cuthbert was able to see nothing outside of the ship. Small cracks let in a tiny bit of light, and once his eyes had adjusted he could make out faint shapes of boxes and barrels in the hull with him. Unfortunately these cracks in the wood were not big enough for him to look through and describe what he saw outside of the ship with any certainty.
Regardless, he felt as though this was the time for him to make his move. He had long thought about the best way to make his escape. Perhaps this was his chance. They would need to open the hull to remove supplies... if he took advantage of...
Caught up in his own thoughts, Cuth was slow to react to the fact that the hull was being opened at this very instant. Light flooded the dark space, and he threw up his hands to shield his eyes. As he attempted to adjust his sight, he felt himself being pulled to his feet. Somewhere above him he heard Gasher's voice "Keep an eye on 'im ya stupid animals! Press a blade to him at all times 'til the transfer is complete! Don't want our precious bit o' treasure to break free now, do we?" Gasher began to laugh a bit at this, which quickly turned into a deep, wet cough. Cuth was pushed up the steps out of the hull onto the deck passed the sickly pirate, and could smell the disease coming off him.
Standing on the deck regarding him silently, Cuth saw an older gentleman - hair and beard grey but neatly trimmed. A quick glance around also told Cuth that they were, indeed, docked in a slip in a town's harbor. Although which town they were in was difficult to tell.
Cuth stood rigid on the deck as Gasher's subordinate pirates crowded around him, including the one that had brought him up from the hull whom now had a blade pressing lightly into his back to dissuade him from fleeing. The elder man approached Cuth slowly, reached out and grabbed his arm. He raised it upward and looked it over, then proceeded to do the same with the other. He circled Cuth once, looking him up and down, then asked to see the bottom of his feet. As he obliged the request (with some unnecessary threats and prodding from the assembled pirates) Cuth realized what was transpiring - he was being sold. The pirates had found a bidder for him, and now this man was looking him over the way one looks over livestock. He was making sure his possible purchase was in good shape. For what type of activity he needed to be in shape for Cuth did not currently know. But one thing was unfortunately clear - he had already missed a chance for escape. _________________ General Cuthbert
