The messenger closed her fingers lightly over his hand and smiled. "You've well anticipated the reason I am here. For all you've endured, all you've actualized in spite of it, grace is once again yours. Your faith never wavered. Even when hell's flames consumed your soul, never once did you turn from your piety. The assumption that you were never truly damned has always been correct, at least in greater part. Your failure in the face of temptation was less punished than used as opportunity for guidance toward the archdaemon's end."

She paused momentarily, considering the depth of comprehension evidenced within his dark emerald gaze and the firm set of his jaw. "Redemption's reward is yours. Take your place as guardian of heaven's gate yet again. Know, however, that awareness of your love for the succubus is not lost, therefore a choice is being offered you. Return with me now if you wish it . . . or stay and pursue the same purpose you set when allowing the Romans your capture."
