"Have a seat."
Mikhaeil stood watching Kaylor for a long moment before moving toward the chair. "Not going to order me to kneel first?" He paused, locking eyes with the knight who'd summoned him. "Or just waiting until after we've spoken to order me under the lash again?"
"Just sit, slave."
The angel lowered his head, replying in a soft and even tone. "As you wish, Dominus.
"I am not your Master." Kaylor glowered.
"Exactly."
Tense silence permeated the space between the two men, broken by a regal sigh. "I would have you build a new ludus at Ashencrosse forthwith. Xoriah shall continue as its overseer and Agostino in her place should such need arise. You've been relieved of duties as Doctore by your own request and may return to the arena as I'm told is your desire. As recompense you will soon be sent to market to find additional gladiators."
Mikhaeil stood and walked to the alcove. "If there is nothing more this slave can do for you," he glanced back over his shoulder, "I will take my leave to see to the gathering of building materials."
Kaylor nodded. "Mikhaeil, please try to understand the difference in your station . . . "
The sound of a gently closed door was the only understanding offered. _________________ *Even if you be otherwise perfect, you fail without humility. ~ The Talmud* |
