I keep logging in...but there is no one in the places I used to go.
Please tell me what city I might find a role player, during regular activities?
Where do you go to repair your items, or shop for goods?
Where do you go to read books? Where do you go to sit and observe
the sights? I do not need elaborate Role Plays, just day to day interactions.
So, please tell me what cities might I visit for this?

There are many places you can go, tommarow will be a tavern night at the Bloodied Feast, come and attend. Yes I am an evil blood sucking vampire, but no worries, we cater to the Mortal class very well. Shocked . There is also Many other great guilds of the ARPC, such as Magincia, Order of the Drunken Elders, to name a few. I dont know if your looking to join a guild or what not but my advice to you is come to our tavern night tommarow, and rp with people, not just the vampires. Also Keep in mind The community is going to be hosting the festival of Britian here soon, and there is going to be alot of guilds and people from the ARPC there so thats another great way to meet with people and find out where we are all hiding Smile If you wish please contact me thru a private message if you like so we can talk more or send me your icq and we can guide you to the many places of the ARPC. I hope you will find it fun and have many adventures once again, and let me be the first to welcome you back to the community, where have you been hiding? Smile

I can help with the books part, I think you'll like this location:

The Grand Britannian Repertory

I'm sure you remember the Atheneum. The Repertory is based off that concept, with massive improvements.

The rest of the community could probably more accurately answer your remaining queries, since I don't get around much in game anymore.

If you enjoy the beauty and culture of orient, then come see us in Tokuno. We are always looking to interact with those of our kind and from the mainland.

This is a good example of what can happen when RP starts to go downhill as a community. When people ask where do I find it and the answer is tavern night or some other scripted event you know your in trouble. I come from GL and what was once a vibrant community with RP that happened unscripted (as in you could find it nightly in one particular town) went the way of the dodo because rp became work.

The way to stop this from happening and I can tell from reading the post here that the community here is in danger of fading out as well is simply this.

1. Choose one town that is the place for RP - Nujelm/Skara/Haven whatever it doesnt matter
2. Designate that town open to all for any kind of rp you want - for example you could rp in the tavern with friends, get into a skuffle with some enemies (as long as its rp'd properly), hold events so others outside of RP can see us doing them (thats how I got interested in rp)- spy on your enemies - etc.......all manner of things can happen.

What you will do is create a place where anyone that wants to RP can find others to do it not in their own guild and it will flow whatever way people take it. The only thing you have to do is make sure you dont get into the trap of allowing RP PVP that is based on "get out of this town or die!" - has to be a little more in depth than that!

I guarentee you will see many more people joining rp and having fun if as a community we all try something different and allow others to see us doing it. Picking a town that gets some traffic is key as well. Sure there can be problems but for sure I can see the same thing happening here as on GL - RP is hard to find and it shouldn't be if we want it to thrive.

Sorry if I offended anyone and unfortunately not everything translates well in a simple post but hope you all get the idea.

Thank you,

Nogusto I couldn't agree with you more sir, hence why I am trying to do a festival event to bring in more rpers to our community but you also have to understand, UO isn't what it used to be, and the lands have expanded so much more its seems were getting smaller and smaller. The Vampires have built a nice sized town of over 8 buildings in an area that we are trying to make into our city in which people can come to and interact with us more. It’s taken quite some time to do but I too have noticed things going south and what we all need to do like you have just posted is come with more ideas to make this a greater place. Magincia is doing this by building your player run town which is a great start, the Vampires will defiantly be coming to chat with you guys more, don't worry will keep our fangs in line. But you have offended no one, in fact you have only posted what allot of us have seen and no one wants to post it. Yes we are in trouble, but we can turn this around. I will do all I can, but if you have ideas Nogusta, post them I will listen to you and so will many others. I am glad and happy for your post because its needed to be said.
I told her to come to tavern night so she could at least get with us, and we could take her around to all the places where RP, can happen such as magincia, and V|O, Stonegate just to name a few. We all need to start interacting more, and sometimes doing RP/PVP is a good way to get people out and about into rp, but you are also right it should always first be about the RP. I made my evil guild, so that you could hate us. My guild is a bunch of Aristocratic Vampires and we RP like we are better than you, but if you ever came to minoc and vesper cove or Britain, we don’t run up to you and say hey what are you doing here. We would welcome you to our city and RP something nice. This was my understanding of what a community is about. Now most of us Vampires are around Trammel Minoc, it’s the Vampiric city Head Quarters, for one reason, I have always loved Minoc, and you will see us around there, and we are also in our player city, but it’s so hard to find any rpers in any cities these days. I have told all my people to do your business in Minoc, where you go to the bank to get something or what not, for the hopes a rper might swing by. But sadly this does not happen.
I understand when you have said before that were in trouble when you have to find rp at tavern night, or scripted rp such as my event, and its scripted only to a point, the festival portion every guild will be doing its own stands, but we have to start somewhere. It can’t be a one two three change thing, the first thing we all need to start doing, and especially us GM's is getting our guilds out there more. I am trying and so are allot of you. Nogusta, you sir hit the nail on the head. But can you reply what we should be doing to get things more active? Do you have ideas on how we can get this rolling? If we have more people who are trying to get miore rp going and voice it, we should get more interaction, and more interaction is more rp. It’s one of the main reasons I am doing this Festival, to get us all together as a community, and to show how strong we are when we are together, and not as Legion of Honor, Not at V|O, and not as Magincia, but as a community of the ARPC. This is how I believe we can revive this community, but we have to start somewhere, so any ideas Nogusta would be of great help. Thank you for posting this, I totally see where you are coming from and agree.
I also love your idea we need a RP town where we can all go to, and not be told to get out your not welcome. What town should it be in? I would allow it to be in Brittan if people would like because I don’t care if rpers come onto my lands, that’s why we are all here to rp. I love this one town to go to idea. Where do we all go if you want constant pvp action, champ spawn or Yew Fell. Go anywhere else and its dead, but if you go to these places be prepared to fight. Nogusta’s idea is the same concept except where do we as a community go to interact with rpers, a designated rp town. Nogusta I am going to get people to work with you on this idea because I think it’s a start in the right direction. Take a bow sir; this is a great, great, idea.

I have suggested to the support team that mabey one guild/person a month pick a town and have an event. We as support will be here to help anyway possable. It can be a tavern night. Mabey like a beach theme like magencia. Who would like to start for April? I have also posted this in Support. I will help anyone who wants to do this. If you as a single person wants to do this let someone from the support team know and we will help.

Lady LaBelle! Wow, haven't seen you in a long time!

Right now there isn't a StormHaven or a Hanses Hostel (well, Hanses is still there, but not like it used to be).

It's a little different now... back in the day the bulk of the guilds were town-asssociated (MTC, HH, Yew, TCH, etc) so you could just go to those cities and find RP. The community has shifted a bit, there are way way more player-run towns where you can find RP, they just arent necessarily found on your "standard" UO map.

I don't want to speak for anyone else's guild, but in terms of Magincia, the Hand of Humanis has now become the Republic of Magincia, and we are still on the island (head to the beach to find our buildings). You can always pop by and see who's around for casual RP. Mag is a good place for easy RP for a returning player because of what has happened to the island. If you haven't been to Mag yet I suggest stopping by - assuming you have a rune Smile

Marius thanks for your support, there are a lot of people who do a lot for the RP community you among them and some of my fellow guild mates and lots of others in other guilds, despite that I think as a community you have to ask yourself - if someone comes along who has never done RP but wants to start where do they go to see it in game and begin to participate or how about the people like me who never knew RP existed in UO until I ran into it in a town consistently years ago and got hooked never looked back or in this case a returning player.

I have read many post on these boards that go back a year and the standard response when someone asks "where can I find RP is - if you look for it you will find it, come to tavern night and start talking to people etc.....I think you have to look at this critically from a community building perspective and say why don't we follow the KISS method (keep it simple stupid) if you can tell anyone anytime "if you want to find RP come to this city anytime and you will find it" isn't that a much easier way? It's less work for those interested and less work finding it is what will allow it to grow. As for towns I would suggest towns that already have people going to them occasionally like Minoc or Skara, Moonglow - Brit is likely a bit too big.

Anyway it's just an idea - I think it's the right one but you leaders of RP will have to decide - I hope you will all consider it as the easy way is most always the best way. My last comment is simply this - you can't think pragmatically about building the community if your deep in it yourself (mabye as a guild leader or similar) and think it's great cause you RP all
the time - you have to think like your brand new and what would allow you to easily engage in RP - I guarantee if youndo that you will end up with a thriving community where RP can be found nightly in many different forms.

Welcome back, Labelle! (it's Ceinwyn)

Magincia is not the safest for a returning player to go to right now, because of the golems being left at our guildhouse. However, the Devs promise it to be rebuilt by end of March. I will be trying to make an effort to be in town every night for a while to catch random roleplay.

Thank you for the reply's...
A functioning city is a long lost dream of mine. I do however tend to travel
from city to city and then role play in the city for a time. (Maybe a little too boring for most of you : ) )
Taverns are not really within my scope of role plays. Glad they are there of course since many Role
Players enjoy them. Is there a player built city that often has people in it? I would have liked to have had
a boarding house in Winterbreeze. Not so lucky I guess.
Nice to hear from familiars, Cuthbert, Cyn.

I would like to host/cohost an event soon. I was thinking of something along the lines of a poker run. For any of you who may be unfamiliar with these, it is an event (usually held for a charity, also usually held by bikers) which 5 locations are picked to be draw spots. At each draw spot participants draw a playing card, the winner being the one who ends up with the best poker hand after drawing all 5 of their cards. This is not a race, more of a party type event, the position each person arrives at the draw spots only affect the order they draw their card. I was thinking this could be done with boats and the draw spots could be any 5 ports (bikers usually use bars), which would also provide an opprotunity for whoever controls that port to Cohost each location. This could be done whether or not an account was upgraded to the high sea (the small boats would work fine for this). The decks of cards could be made with books, and I could come up with a way that they could not see the card before it is drawn by placing each in a locked container. In the event of a tie, they could either split the reward or use a cup of dice for a roll off.
