To Hell And Back

Watch the old cock pecking the motherly fowl
Live in trepidation of the shadows that loom
Stomach the agony of the nakedness’ prowl
Blight at vicars who offspring in the room

Heartbreaking moments on the day the lovebirds sing

Exasperating fruits of labour that are not but a fling
Drill through the brute vigor of the regiment
Healing wounds fixed with an exorbitant popsicle
Take umbrage at the swing of glee and resentment
Finalising episodes of yet another hellish chronicle
Now is the time of respite and tranquillity
But the promise of tribulation sets the path of greater hostility

Dear Journal, I find myself thinking of the recent broadcasts.. I believe in the magnate's words wholeheartedly, as do the other citizen's of magicina, however it distresses me to see humans with pure blood continue to reject the truth.. darkness looms and the wolves howls move through the masses like poison, they must be silenced.

Yesterday the General gave me some tasks, items to gather.. at first I thought it would be an easy task but came to discover it was no fools errand, I finished obtaining all of the things requested this evening, I spent a good amount of time in the underworld and am in need of a shower.. in other news I discovered the "condition" of Lady Joanna, I can only assume the baby belongs to the Magnate.
Tazibar was promoted today as well, what else.... I think I'll have one more glass of wine before a shower and bed..

Ari dips a quill in her seashell filled with crimson ink and begins to write in her journal..

Sand:

Maybe it is the memories
the change of pace that brings us there
the sense of warmth and of home
maybe the smell of the place
the sights of the gulls, the dunes, the grasses
but oh it is the feel of it,
the crunch and slide of it
the feeling of beach sand
so different from dirt, soil, loam
no, not earthy, moist, rich,
but oh so granular and gritty
even when wet,
moveable paper spreading under toes
sliding beneath the soles
smoothing my skin
clearing my mind
unburdening me of the rest
drawing me to the tactile, the feel
of beach sand.. Pure

Dear Journal,

The holiday event has now passed.. It was wonderful to see so much life in Magicina, sellers sold there wares, couples held hands and children walked from booth to booth.. and dare I say romance bloomed. The Janissary's and The General worked endlessly to keep the bane away from the festivities, I felt slightly ashamed for not being out with them guarding, while I was at my booth selling potions and other such things. I hope they weren't to irritated. I made a new friend today and kissed a stranger for good luck, I guess it was not so bad.

The flower blooms giving to the world the beauty of it's self
sharing, giving, adulthood
spreading it's blossom for the world to see.

Since my last journal entry a few things have happened, one I was promoted from Janissary to lieutenant "unofficially" at the last meeting, I new I was being considered for it but it was still a wonderful honor I just have to wait for Cuthbert's return. I have loved my time in the republic, so much so.. i found myself volunteering to spy in a few key areas.. fortunately I was able to get into the locations with out notice, I was only attacked once.. and it seemed to come from nowhere.. for I saw nothing, it was quite peculiar. I went exploring last night and came to an eerie place.. a clan of vampires taught school, or trained there.. they did not greet me very pleasantly, one they call Shai and the female that was with him..i did not get her name. They told me I was foolish to travel alone, and something about my blood. Perhaps I am foolish, but I cannot stop learning, their culture fascinates me, of course they are nothing like Humans and they are far below us, but I am still so very curious abut them.. I wonder if they can have children.. or if they can only multiply by infecting others with their disease.. I plan to go back and learn more another time. Tazibar was rather cross with me for going on my own, he has been very protective as of late.. I now know of his affections and return them, but I can't let that stop me from doing my job.. nor stopping my thirst for knowledge.. there is plenty of time for romance. hmmm what else, *doodles hearts on the page* Oh yes, Kaylor and his wife have been at the isle more often then not.. learning the ways of the Humanis, the Magnate and some of the Janissary's are concerned they might be spies for Stonegate, I am not convinced this is so. Tazibar gave them some wolfs-bane to protect them, It is my hope that they join us and leave that cold place before that Merci woman or the King find out of the treachery.. at least thats what I call it. more later..

*scribbles Ari*

The streets of Luna were full of onlookers, as the burning of the wolf kings effigy took place. Isk spoke proudly and the citizens cried out with him full of pride and passion. I took my place just south of the burning and tossed in a few books of my own. Never have I felt as I did on this night, never have I felt more proud or alive. Tazibar at my side also guarded the southern entrance, as more people crowded in to join the voice of Humanis we kept ever watchful for the citizens of stonegate, expecting them to protest or attack at any moment. Joanna participated proudly, but also guarded her now very round pregnant belly and stayed slightly more out of sight. "I don't blame her" The Janissary's took formation when the effigy was turned to ash and yelled in unison, Hold Humanis High! It was wonderful. As the streets began to clear we returned to our treasured Magicina tired, but with good spirits.. definitely ready to celebrate! As we reached the steps of the basilica we were all quite shocked to see a large number of Orcs swarming about the wolf king himself.. he wore shackles and they spoke something of an alliance, we would never form such a disgraceful alliance.. General Cuthbert would never allow it. Puzzled we stood looking at each-other not quite sure how to proceed, just when the wolf king lead a charge against our Magnate.. one by one we hit the sand falling wounded from now now obvious foes of Stonegate ,we were greatly outnumbered. I managed to hit a few targets and dropped one before I fell myself. This treachery will not go unpunished, to attack with deception in such a way, and at our home.. *a pencil mark gouges part of the page*
It will be my first action as a new Lieutenant to see that justice prevails against this abomination and his pack of wild dogs..

Elves, and conspiracy in my own home, whats next? I can't believe what I herd, was it wrong of me to turn in my own flesh and blood? no.. the republic and the lives of the citizens are more important then my own sister.. *dips her quill in the crimson ink then places it back to the page* I better not hang for their mistakes.

Yesterday was strange, a message seeking help came from some refugees of Magincia who had settled in Vesper. Of course we were intrigued by the plea for help. Lieutenant Acheron lead us all to Vesper where we came to find a very smelly and extremely drunk sea captain. "Save her save her" he cried over and over.. if we had not left when we did I may not have been able to refrain from sticking with an arrow myself. We headed west toward the graveyard and ventured down the dark wet tunnels in the largest crypt... Vampires, what seemed to be a hundred of them antagonizing the sea captains wife, probing her for information on the whereabouts of their ship. They clearly wanted something badly. The Janissary's and the Lieutenant pushed back the vile beasts and I was able to free the woman I walked quickly hand in hand with her back to the Tavern in witch her husband was still-- drinking. She ran to him and they embraced, it was rather sweet if you are soft about that sort of thing. The woman then admitted to us all she had indeed given the location of the ship, some people just cant handle pressure.. anyway The Captain told us what dock we could find the ship and cargo at.. alas it was to late, by the time we reached the ship the cargo had all been stolen..I boarded the ship looking to see if I could find any clues to lead us to the cargo, in one of the dusty broken crates I found the ships manifest, Eventually Tazibar and I managed to find the person who was supposed to be guarding the cargo... he was much more interested in talking about his taro cards. After quite a lot of persuasion from our group we finally got word that the cargo made it's way to the Vesper Museum. We were all quite tired by this point and vampires were attacking us at every turn. I followed the group down into the basement of the museum where we came onto an old man .... after some coercion and having to prove our self's to be true Magincians he handed me the crate with the relics we had for so long been searching for. As we took inventory we discovered one key relic was missing... A dagger, not just any dagger a wolf slayer known as the misercord. Tazibar scribbled his name on a parchment and I toted the heavy crate back to the Basilica, Isk & Joanna were pleased with having Relics of Magincia returned home.. but the nagging question burns in the back of my mind.. why that weapon? Is it to keep us from using it against Stonegate? or perhaps they plan to wage war against Stonegate themselves. I guess time will tell.

I am aware that this is folly, of course—there is no safety by the river, no stability, not even a guarantee of welcome—and this would be the third thing that you really ought to know. But I have managed to learn some other things over the past months: that truths do not necessarily come in threes; that value is subjective; that respectability is not the same as self-respect; and that happy endings may happen wherever you choose to find them. Or make them.
