Fiona stood, looking at her wedding dress that she would now never wear, replaying the meeting between her and Kaylor over in her head...
"Good evening, Fiona." Kaylor began, casually, as if nothing was amiss.
"What did you wish to speak to me about?" Fiona asked bluntly, cutting through what she felt were unnecessary pleasantries.
"Since the return of my memories, I have renewed vision of my responsibilities." he began.
Fiona wore her oft-used blank expression to hide her feelings as he continued.
"I cannot go against my vows so earnestly as to...take a wife. Truly, I apologize. But I am therefore breaking our betrothal."
Despite her best efforts to remain silent, Fiona foolishly whispered, "I trusted you." as if pointing out his betrayal would somehow change it.
Kaylor nodded. "Aye, you did. And I love you still, but it would be a sin in my God's eyes to so love another that I wed her."
Feeling a terrible ache in her chest, Fiona had to look away from him. She looked at the snow without really seeing it and listened to his words without really hearing them.
"I have much to repent for over that. The pain I am causing you now." Kaylor said.
Fiona still could not bear to look at him. Knowing the answer but having to hear him say it, she asked, "You put your God above all else?"
Kaylor looked at her as he replied. "I am bound certain circumstances. I do not put him above all else, but equally with many things. And aye, above some."
She knew what "some" meant. Why hadn't he just said "And aye, above YOU."? The pain she felt was so fierce that Fiona just wanted everything to fade away into oblivion. She imagined the weeks to come, being forced to see him day after day. The ankh pendant around his neck, which she had given him, would be a constant reminder of where his loyalties lie.
Fiona turned back to him, slowly, before saying, "Perhaps you belong in more religious surroundings." Hoping he would just go away and spare her, leave her to her once beloved solitude.
"I think I belong where my duty calls me. Now, if you will excuse me, Fiona, I must be on my way."
Fiona shrugged before heading back inside, accepting defeat. She went to the chest, which contained her wedding dress, and opened it. Sighing, she removed it and thought of all of the things that would now never come to pass.

WHAT! Fury coursed thru her and she threw another glass against her crystaline walls. He broke up with her... left her unwed. Oh my Fiona, how her heart must ache! Cousin of my heart alone and perhaps uncertain of what she should do.
I was there before, I shall be here now.
Merci sat down at her desk to write:
