Umbra.
How she missed that blissfully dark place where the sun never rose to harm her.
Remembering all too well how the surface light blistered her skin and made her eyes bleed crimson tears, Bae'vin often lamented the need to high-tail out of the city when things got so very strange. She did not quite understand what was happening, only that things felt wrong. It certainly had not the same feeling it did when she had taken her first tentative steps into that twilight world.
Due to the subtle shifts in populace and feel, Bae'vin had long ago taken to the road; she feared contacting the few others of her kind there, their allegiances were questionable to her.
Days, she would spend camped out in the depths of mining caves and the like, waiting until what little light crept in went away with the coming of her time--the night.
Ah, the blessed and dark sacred nights. How beautiful the many cities, towns, and hamlets of these lands looked under the glow of stars or moon. A person could truly enjoy the flicker of a candlelit window, or the sparks that danced up from a hearth's chimney. In those quiet and beautiful hours, Bae'vin communed with those creatures who shared that time with her.
But the truth was, life as it had become was taxing. How much easier it would be, were she welcome back to the place of the one who spoiled her without question. Living on the road as she'd been took work.
And really, who wanted that? |

With great difficulty, Bae'vin read the brief note from Alaundril several times. Though her language skills were improving, they were still not accustomed to this strange tongue. With a slight grin upon her face, she tucked the note away.
The time would not pass quickly enough before she would encounter Alaundril. There was so much to say.
And ask. _________________ Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But... there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit... a darkside. |
