I have no problem with thieves who use the skill to steal items from other players.

I have a problem with the scammers (not thieves, scammers) who manipulate the trust of players in order to take from them some sort of item or amount of gold. Douchebags would perhaps be a more appropriate term. Say whatever you (generally speaking) want to defend them, it doesn't make them any less of a bag of douche.
