Eddard Vahanian stood on the roof of his tower in the feluccian forest gazing out into the night. His hair whipping in the gusts of the cold night air. It had grown longer in the fast few weeks he noticed suddenly. Usually kept closely cropped it now was nearly to the base of his neck.
"I'll have to get this cut first thing tomorrow." he said quietly to himself, turning his gaze downwards to his hand clutching at his left side. The ribs were still tender and it was hard to take deep breaths. The newest addition to his collection of bruises and cuts acquired in his training sessions. He began to pace on the roof stroking his goatee deep in thought. The ribs didn't bother him, it was a wound of the flesh. But something else hurt deep down, his pride. The battle...if you could call it that, opened his eyes.
"Damn it!" he yelled, slamming a gloved fist against the battlement. All his years of training and preparation, all the battles he had seen before and none had baffled him as much as this one. His face turned red with anger and he felt it brewing with every step he took. What he was doing anymore he did not know. Maybe he wasn't the warrior he thought he was anymore. Maybe he didn't know who he was anymore...Suddenly he saw Stonegate, the meadhall, the library, training center, the tall mountains surround the valley standing ever vigilant. And then there it was, A blackness sweeping over the mountains, wilting the tree's and scorching the the grass. He saw his fellow Guardians fighting, and dying, the pure snow stained red with their blood. He was standing far away from it and no matter how much he ran to join them he just didn't seem to get any closer.
One by one they fell to the darkness and then suddenly, Stonegate was gone. "You know who you are Eddard Vahanian." a booming voice echoed through the valley, off the stone walls of the mountains. Eddard looked around searching for the source of the voice. Then he saw him, a tall knight floating down through a break in the darkness. The figure came to rest in front of him, an imposing figure clad in gleaming platemail armor. The figure reached out placing his mailed hand on his shoulder pushing Eddard down on his knees. You are a Paladin. You are a Warrior. You are a Guardian!" And just like that he was back on the roof, on his knees. Gathering his composure he stood the memory of what he had seen had him shaking. And then the voice in the vision sounded again.
"Remember Lord Vahanian, There is nothing more dangerous than a Warrior with a cause." he turned on his heel taking the steps down into the tower.
