If the shadowy figure known as The Boss (or one of his spies) were to check the usual message spot at the Double Dagger Inn he would find a scroll, sealed with green wax and bearing only a K for the mark. Those who know where and how to look would also notice drow markings indiciating that the message is coated heavily with poison in all but a few select hand-hold spots.
The message reads:
-Boss-
My self-imposed exile from Sosarian lands is coming to a close. I regret the abrupt manner in which I left so many months ago, but it could not be helped. I had urgent family business that needed attending followed by an important bit of personal soul-searching, if you will. Why I left, however, is not important. What is important is that I am now nearly ready to return and further the causes of Stonegate and Sirrah.
Of course, that’s going to be a problem, isn’t it?
By now your spies would have told you about my brother. He owes me a considerable amount of favors and, as such, I asked him to gather as much information as he could in advance of my return. Granted, he’s the studious sort, always pouring over tomes and spell books and not really well suited for covert operations or intelligence gathering, but he still has told me much. If even half of what he says is true, then things seem to have changed much while I was away.
He speaks of a gargoyle stronghold and blabbers about a new form of magic they posses. He tells me stories of mercenary groups and gypsies. He says the undead of Umbra are active as always, while Sirrah fronts and safehouses are eerily quiet. He says the Drow Quarter seems to have expanded and even mentioned something about a giant spider avatar? I would imagine Lloth has shown the Matron great favor, then? He also speaks of a shrine dedicated to the Ebon Skull near Charnel Hill. He says the sight of it chills him to the bone—strong words for my brother, who himself is quite versed in the art of Necromancy.
Most interestingly, however, is that he claims to have spoken with Alaundril. He says Sirrah no longer serves as the shadow branch of Stonegate? That the Wolves now ally themselves with the Lotus ninja? Furthermore, he claims the winds speak of an alliance between the Matron and the Lich Lord?!
Abbilen nin ogglinnar, ogglinnar nin abbilen? Shlu'ta ol tlu seke?
I had long looked forward to returning and taking up the mantle of Sirrah (and, by extension, the mantle of Stonegate), but now I am unable to discern friend from foe. I would like to meet and hear your view of current events so that I can make a more informed decision regarding to whom I should pledge my services and my allegiance.
I will instruct my brother to check the usual message spots regularly.
In shadow, as always,
:K: |

The old Drow found this unexpected letter awaiting him. Kinn. It seemed his old friend had resurfaced. Alaundril took a few moments to read over the letter, pausing several times to shake his head and frown. He penned a reply...
K:
My old friend. You must have hit your head or been gone too long. I don't know what this group is you're talking about. Sirrah is a name I have not heard in centuries and it's a long dead sect of Drow. The Company has been working diligently here in the desert since we left for Stonegate almost an age ago. Currently, the Double Dagger Inn has been our safe house here in Umbra. The business it does has been enough to keep our informants paid, though I will admit that our greatest blade has been dulled through lack of use. As you had said yourself, the situation of Malas has changed greatly since our departure to the north. Our Lord came to me, displeased with our lengthy contract with the Wolf King. The Masked one is ever ambitious, as he must be to counter the Dark Mother. Her actions are impeding on our agenda on the surface.
Our Lord made it clear that he wanted the company doing business as usual. Especially with the return of the Morchiant clan. A group of noble Drow that have not graced Sossaria in eons it seems. It was decided last evening that The Drow Lord, Gorhun Morchiant will be handling all matters in Malas in relation to the Masked One. I am forced to comply with his directive, which includes my retreat from the North.
As always. This is only part of the story my old friend. We can speak in more detail when you make your way to the Double Dagger. I will have Mr. Narshan prepare a room for you.

Alaundril sealed the letter and replaced it in the drawer for Kinn to find. A smile on his face for the first time in a very very long time. |
