Just saw it last night at midnight, and I was blown away. Easily my favorite movie of the year. It's a cinematic landmark. Seriously, the visuals are utterly breathtaking, you won't believe it. Wow. I can't wait to see this again in IMAX.
And I really want to live on Pandora now. Earth sucks. |

I want to see it. Everyone I talk to says it was fantastic. I think my favorite review was from Cracked.com and it went something like, "Avatar is horribly written, terribly acted and completely worth it."
I didn't read the article, for fear of even the slightest spoilers (which I hate!!!). I'm gonna try to see it soonish. Maybe IMAX. _________________ I have no idea what you are talking about.

I didn't see it in imax, but i saw it at a good theater in 3d and I really really liked it as well.
The movie is insanely well done... having said that, I didn't think it was as ground breaking as it was claimed to be, but the movie was damn good and I really enjoyed it.
The concepts in the movie are certainly not new, but they pulled them off really well in a very original way.
I'd like to see the movie again myself. _________________ "You see I can not be forsaken, because I'm not the only one. We walk amongst you, beating, r#ping, must we hide from everyone?" - Jon Davis |

Yeah, it wasn't something super original, but it was done so well, the visuals were so stunning. I dropped my jaw several times. Everything looks so real, so alive. Definitely very epic as well. I recommend this movie to everyone, I can see absolutely everyone being able to enjoy this movie.
Unless you really hate blue people. :/ |

I saw this movie a couple nights back with my Moms.
As far as visuals are concerned, it is definitely an eye-opener. The stunning special effects, mixed in with normal people really let you know how far we've come in the graphics industry.
The story was okay I guess. No story really surprises me anymore movie-wise though, you know what is going to happen. It was also REALLY long for my tastes, but near the end I was diggin' the battle scenes and some of the fights. The Colonel is a badass!
I'm just glad they didn't put that stupid friggin' Eiffel song "I'm Blue" in there at all. That would've just sent me towards the doors!
If you want my rate, I'd give it a 6/10. _________________ AKA: Gryss ab'Arawn

Oh my God that would have made the movie a 11/10 in my book instead of 10/10. That would have been so awesome. And I'm totally serious right now. |

This movie had a storyline copied from so many movies just altered to suit 'alien' instead of 'indian' and 'merc' instead of 'insert white man empire'
Sure the effects are great but you cant build a movie on fluff. It was meh. 6/10 |

Robots fighting space-tigers made it worth it, past that it was Pocahontas hued glacial and neon. |

Just about every movie's story is a "copy" of some other story/movie nowadays. That's just how it is. You just have to accept that and learn to appreciate the way its handled. Even if this is a copy of other past stories, it still blows all those "originals" away. You just have to learn to enjoy what you're given. For instance, just about 99% of fantasy stories are a rip-off of LOTR, but we still know how to enjoy them. Familiarity isn't a bad thing, it's just the small details that make each different thing stand out. |

For the plot cliches it fell into I feel like it missed it's market. It's being heavily marketed with toys, McDonald's tie-ins and I believe the discussion of an animated series, despite this it featured some very adult themes and language. My issue isn't so much with the movie it's self as it is with the characters. This being said, the world that Avatar exists in is almost wholly pleasing. Pandora is an interest planet and the "marines", as they're called, carry some of the most visually pleasing tech I've seen in some time.
My biggest issue however was the main character ditching his green pterodactyl for the red one. |

I don't think its an interesting planet. What sense is there that you can plug your hair into everything and control it? The characters are stereotype and two dimensional. The world is like taking a trip through elf lands in wow.
You want to see a good movie go see Triangle. |

How's it not interesting? It's definitely the most beautiful planet ever featured in a film, without a doubt. And I think the plugging the hair into everything is cool and kind of original, albeit a little strange, but there was a scientific approach to it as well and it made sense and worked out well. And comparing this to "elf lands" in WoW is just... I'm sorry but that's just a bogus comparison. I won't even get into that.
It's a shame that people can't just enjoy stuff anymore without criticizing every little thing, but I'm sorry you didn't think it was a good movie, Isk. But what is this Triangle movie you speak of? That horror movie that came out in October or something? I'm curious. |
