As cliche as it's going to sound, my role model is my father. Coming from where I did, I was considered a real oddity that my dad didn't walk around drunk and pissed off at his life. He also didn't spend his free time kicking the hell out of my mom, which, again, was a real rarity in my circle growing up.

He -always- took a real interest in myself and my brother, and sister, and always made time to do things with us. With my brother and I though, he really impressed upon us how to act like men. And not the s#!*heel jock who walks around with that "Whats up bro?" attitude or the countless neighborhood blockheads who expressed themselves with their fists we grew up around. He really just drove the point home that you should walk with your head up no matter what and treat with other people in the most straightforward manner possible.

Incidentally, after a Knick game one winter (and after a solid handful of Heinekens) he told me Manhattan had a 3 to 1 women to men ratio. Furthermore, he claimed with half the men in the city being gay, the odds were way better, and that I should spend as much time here as possible. I was like 15 at the time. Now I'm not sure if his numbers were correct, but in years time, and for years to come, I took his advice to heart...and BOY! Was I ever glad I did!!!
