I wasnt there on a mount. In fact, almost all of us weren't on the bad guys side. Why would you ride a horse into battle if you depend on stealth to fight?
Just an honest question. |
I guess it all boils down to why you're there. Do you want to PVP...or do you want to RP-PVP? There's a BIG difference.
In fel, even the stealth templates carry ethy's in thier pack and use them either right before they make thier first attack (if they're archer's) or right after (if they're melee). It's just what you do if you want to win/live.
Last I checked, none of us were HoT/HEAT...so we should all have a different set of priorities when we come to these battles, right? I would hope so.... |

Yah, I follow after Mairsil on the use of bolas. If you're on foot then their are several techniques ways you can bring people off mounts. It is just an application of tactics. Low ranking members of the Stormreaver Orcs were often given the simple task of using bolas or weaponry to bring people off mounts so the "mojoer Orcs" could gank them. If anything I might consider it a balancing factor against stealthers. When a stealther is in trouble, they can throwing a vanishing egg thing or shadow strike to make their get away. Everyone else would just have to hoof it? That doesn't strike me as balanced. And as an additional note, I can think of few occasions during actual battles where assassins or ninjas were present anyway, for the very fact that they could not keep up with the action in the midst of a fast paced conflict with little places to actually hide and sneak. Honestly, if ninjas can sneak into a place like the Ebon Spire without sending up any flags, then they are aspected towards sneaking around and not combat anyway (regardless of what their template thinks of the matter).
Honestly though, I wouldn't even mind if my characters were on foot for battle to keep things "balanced". Though the argument of being "different than the PvP community" by limiting ourselves has never worked out in the end. The old discussion on whether or not the RP community should limit itself to GM armor with maybe a few artifacts for the older/higher in rank characters never produced much fruit. Mostly because people didn't think that limiting their characters in PvP when there were all these fancy goodies (many of which they gladly used PvM) for them to use. It is just one of those things that seems to one-sided to be universally agreed upon. _________________ Femmies?! HOWAH!

My point was not that we're different than the PVP community in that we limit ourselves, but rather that we're different (I would like to think, anyway) because we fight for different reasons (ie, to augment our RP, advance a storyline, etc).
It goes back to the old Quiver of Infinity argument again. Wear it if you want--it's your character and your RP. Kinn won't wear one...he isn't an Archer and I can justify it in my RP. Does it put me at a disadvantage in these RP-PVP battles...clearly yes. IS wining the only thing I care about in these RP-PVP battles? Obviously not....
Much like Kinn is primarily a Kryss/Dagger user. Would you expect a kryss user to be engaging in mounted combat? In ANY sort of fantasy setting? I wouldn't. Personal RP Preference, I know..but again, I'm not here to win at any cost. *shrug* |

How about oil cloths? Lute taught Kaelthir the value of having scrap cloth handy at all times. |

Well you should, man! Lives are at stake!
Most of my post was actually more angled about why putting everyone on foot isn't really balanced, rather than about how l337 I want to be in battle regardless of how it looks. But I do catch your meaning and if you choose to limit yourself because riding on an ethy with that equipment seems out of place (and you're right it does from a purely objective standpoint considering how those weapons are wielded) then I salute you and am glad to see/hear of your efforts (anyone know if anyone still rides around with a meat cleaver like they are from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?). _________________ Femmies?! Funny you should mention that. I've been thinking about a Necro/swords char who would wield only cleavers or skinning knives. His nickname would be The Butcher. He'd be really evil/sinister. Obessed with cutting up corpses for experiments and such. I just don't know if I have it in me to be *that* dark.

the eur community do have a limits on only having gm armour.... no arties or jewles allowed, all quivers can be used barring the infinity one, they even have restrictions on spells and abilities eg of one... the use of lightning strike is prohibated, there is also a ban on everything that has an area of effect, plus others... most of the guilds wouldn't even allow the members to use magic and arty gear for pvm... it is another reason why i came over to atl... it was just boring standing at a gate or a tavern night every night of the week... _________________ cezanna "No, he is a fair and faithful man, Ranna"
