|
Nxyanna delivered the letter herself to the steps of the sepulcher placing it on the throne.
Dear Matriarch,
I have remained quiet long enough. I am not one to brag about my skills but I feel somehow a misunderstanding has occurred. While I feel Ciara is a fine alchemist and specializes in some very interesting and unique things I do not feel that her abilities surpass mine. I may be wrong but I have worked for years in Umbras own Regeant shop. I have dealt with many a plant matter. I have devised things that are just as innovative and alchemical as my friend. I will not allow an equal to access my skills.
Have I learned all that I can? No, would I call myself a Legendary alchemist, no. However I am extremely adept. So I will get to the point, I apologize for my lack of focus last night as it seems to have given you the notion that i am untrained. I will gladly have my skills accessed by someone well known in the alchemical industry. I ask that you contact Cear Dahlben or my own trainer, Dragothien to administer the test so they can give you a very knowledged view of areas i need to improve in.
I have always been shy and quiet and that is an area of weakness i am working on however there are many that will tell you when I put my mind to it I can accomplish much. I have always held a great deal of love and respect for you Grandmother but I feel that in this you must reaccess your decision.
As for my abilities as a mage I was trained by Malikhia and my grandfather. Combining potion fighting with magery is hard and I am not as strong in this area as Alchemy but I am a good mage, there is no way that those two teachers would turn out anything less...
With Respect,
Nyxanna |

Ceinwyn read the letter over, noting how the letter greeted her as matriarch, and not grandmother. She sat back in her chair, setting the letter down on the dark stone table before her. She mulled the matter over, considering various methods with which to respond to her granddaughter, who seemed to be worked up and offended by her simple request.
At last, she took pen and paper and penned a response back to Nyxanna.
Nyxanna,
There was no misunderstanding on my behalf. Ciara is a competent alchemist and she knows the exact areas in which I wish you tested. They are not extraordinary, nor are they supremely difficult. It is a simple test that will guide my decision about something concerning you. I never said Ciara's skills surpass your own, did I? Do not presume to read into my decisions, for they are always guided by some reason or another, which you may or may not be able to guess at.
You will allow her to assess your skills, as per my command, or you will be sent north with your father for your failure to follow the orders of the Matriarch, as you seem to prefer calling me whenever you are upset with me.
Secondly, I do not question Mailikhia or Mairsil's training of you. Both are gifted mages. Your use of the arcane was never in question.
Granddaughter, it pains me to speak to you in this manner, as you have been a sparkle in my eye. But, I will not have my own judgement or orders questioned by an untried excitable young girl, be she kin or otherwise.
Furthermore, you seem to think that being quiet is a weakness. It is not. Oft times do wise men hold their tongues whilst fools reveal their ignorance in speech. Being shy is something that fades with age, in most cases. It is a fear of interaction with others. I have never seen you hesitate to speak to people. Perhaps I do not spend enough time with you, though. A matter which will be remedied as soon as you pass my test.
With love,
Grandmother
P.S. If you wish to see a good example of ignorance speaking aloud, sit in on a protectorate meeting in which Lord Malo attends. |

Nyxanna read over the letter slowly, feeling humiliated and even lonelier she shrugged. Very well if she has no confidence in me without this test then I shall take my friends test.
She would send me away simply for this... *Nyxanna shakes her head*
She reads the last paragraph tears brimming, Quote: | A matter which will be remedied as soon as you pass my test. | So she doesnt wish to spend time with me if I fail?
Nyxanna turned her heart heavier than before and set the letter down she had obviously not conveyed herself in the manner she wished. She wondered if she had missed something, if other Umbran alchemists had taken tests and she had just missed it.
Putting the letter in a safe place she headed off to rest. |
