Everything felt blissfully simple these days for Brianha. They were married … finally… and were awaiting their new arrival any day now. Smiling as she went about her morning routine of making the bed she was taken by surprise when she felt a sudden onslaught of liquid between her legs.. it just seemed to keep coming. Knowing this meant it was time, panic began to set in just a little bit as she realized she was all alone at the moment. Trying to take control of her panic she opened a gate straight to her healer and stepped through.

He was there at his desk quietly writing in his log. Seeing the blue orb he looked up and instantly realizing who it was knew he had work to do. He went over to her to see what stage she was in, and was much relieved to find it was early still.

“Ok lass… let me grab my things and off we go back to your home. The comfort of your home will help you through it”

Bri just nodded thankful to have direction from someone, but still was concerned that Vaen would not be there. The healer could see the worry and put a hand on her shoulder.

“I shall have him summoned.. you just worry about staying calm, I shall handle the rest”

Knowing he would as he always had, she relaxed and held onto his arm as they turned back into the orb to her house. Once there she was settled in her bed with fresh clothes and awaited the work that needed to be done. Closing her eyes she thought of Vaen and wished he were here…. Soon after that thought was the first real pain and she sat straight up in bed and tried to concentrate on something else. This was it… a long night awaited her.

The contractions were coming stronger and she bit down hard each time. In the middle of one someone came and sat beside her on the bed rubbing her back and cooing with a soothing voice to get her through it. Finally after it passed she turned and a big smile crossed her face seeing him there. She was not alone, she could do this now.

Together they worked through it and even though at times it seemed she wanted to give up, she continued on knowing there was no choice. She cursed and cried and dug her nails into Vaen’s hands as she worked through her labor, but finally after the suffering she was allowed peace as the baby made its way into the world. She could not have been more relieved and when the baby was put upon her chest she cuddled it and cried thankful the baby and herself were both in good health. Looking down at the baby she smiled wide and looked up at Vaen….

“Isnt she beautiful?”

"She?" Vaen looked down at his now bleeding arm from her clutches, and then back at Brianha. He chuckled softly. "She, right. Come on, where's the penis?"

Brianha looked up at Vaen a bit angrily, but contained it as best she could as she looked down at their daughter, smiling.

Vaen turned and began looking through the healer's bag. Confused, the healer spoke up. "Uhm, Lord Swiftar, what are you doing?"

"Oh, you healer types can do a lot of things. I'm just looking for your 'Transgender Wand.' You know, to make the kid a boy."

"Vaen! Stop that!" Brianha yelled from the bed.

Sighing, defeatedly, Vaen walked over towards the bed and placed a hand on Bri's head. Smiling down at his child, he nodded. "She is beautiful." He then reached for Brianha's hand, as the new parents looked upon their new child.

Holding the baby Bri smiled a little weakly. Since having her she felt so tired and not herself at all. Her mind went blank more often than not and she felt the heaviness of her lids take over in times when she needed to be alert for the baby. She had not mentioned it to Vaen figuring she was just getting used to the lack of sleep, but it was starting to get worse and it concerned her greatly. The tiredness was explainable.. the losing her thoughts and sometimes the ability to do simple tasks because of the heaviness of her limbs.. that was not normal.

Putting the wee one in her crib Bri went to her desk and penned a quick note to her healer to see if he could come by sometime today. She knew Vaen would be away for the day so if this turned out to be a silly thing then he would never even know of her paranoia. Finishing her note she folded it neatly and sealed it with the Swiftar crest. She slowly made her way down to the kitchen where she found the maid they had hired to help during the first few months.

“Mary, might I ask for you to take this to my healer in Vesper? It is rather important and I am anxious for his opinion on the matter.”

Mary nodded sweetly taking the note, and grabbing her robe headed out the door.

It was midday when they both returned and a look of relief crossed Bri’s face. The healer sat next to her on the bed and listened as she spoke. It started to worry Bri that his brows were furrowed and he was in obvious deep thought on the matter. She finished her descriptions of what troubles had been worrying her and he sat quietly for a moment.

“Bri, just based on description what is ailing you is most assuredly serious and something we can not take lightly… however I must exam you further and run a few tests to be sure this is what I believe it to be. It will not take but a few hours before we have our answers.”

He stood up and began his examination. After some time he left to retrieve some things and come back to finish the testing. The afternoon was mostly gone by the time he sat gently next to her and took her hand.

“What you have is a very rare disease. Your body is attacking itself right now, the good that fights the bad… it all got mixed up to put it in lamens terms. You will lose your ability to walk, talk, and use your motor functions as your nerves continue to be attacked. I will need to be near you as you progress to keep a close eye. You will at some point do nothing but sleep and you will have to battle in your mind with frustration and boredom. We have nothing to combat this except time. We must wait until your body is done and then we wait for the nerves to repair themselves slowly so that we can work on restoring the functions that you have lost. I advise you to think of someone you may trust to care for the wee one. You will be unable to for some time… not just weeks Bri… months, could even be close to a year, I just cant predict that. Vaen is a busy man and my guess is he will be unable to be home day and night during this, so think of your options and when he gets home tonight talk to him, but Bri… you will make it through this, it is just a long battle and a frustrating one. I will remain here and speak with Vaen regarding the questions he will most likely have.”

Seeing her tears and watching her look over at the baby he felt sore for her. She had lost her first child and now he knew she was torturing her mind with the thoughts that she would be missing so much of the beginning with this one. Sighing he took her hand.

“Be strong lass.. you have fought through many things in your time… this is just another battle for you”

She could not think of words, she could only think of the sadness of not being able to hold her baby as she worsened. She nodded to him.

“ I just need some time alone to except what is to come for some time, I am just angry and sad and…. I just am tired of things happening to keep us from the happy times we deserve”

“You will have plenty more happiness.. you just need to work through this first lass… but I will leave you to your thoughts and take myself down to the sitting area for a time. Rest up” he softly touched her hand and went over to the baby gently picking her up and handing her to Bri. Smiling he left mother and child and headed downstairs.

As he reached the bottom stair he heard the door open and saw Vaen walk through. He could see the quizzical look on his face and motioned for him to go to Bri upstairs.
