Yeah, UO's doing surprisingly well. They probably make a lot off of the side crap they sell (tokens and miscellaneous junk). The real way to tell when they're planning to kill a game is when they offer a lifetime subscription, just look at the massive (and hilarious) flop that was Hellgate. They obviously never expected it to live long enough to generate revenue from subscriptions that would be greater than the lifelong subscription fee.

50 guilds and 750 members? What kind of crack...

It's from UO.com, you can verify the numbers for confirmation if you want to check over the guild listings. Obviously the actual number of individual members is probably 1/5th or less of that, though the 1000 members in 2001 would fall under the same problem, so the comparisons are as valid as a comparison based purely off a single set of statistics and variables can be.

Still, all the numbers are misleading. An army of alts and a bunch of house holder accounts and one man guilds hardly contributes to the community. Though, you are right, the percentages are probably accurate because the numbers from both time periods are likely riddled with the same technicalities and flaws.

Those numbers just make me sad is all.
