How do you RP your alts with IC and OOC knowledge? Do you RP with yourself and if you do, how do you justify it as it not being a form of metagaming? The shard is down and curiosity is piqued as to how others deal with this...

lol, depends on the chars. Some of my chars don't know each other that well, so they are clueless. some, like dory, would know ciara's information, because they are mother and daughter. However, she would be clueless about say, Lotte. Then again, I have my little spy, who just knows stuff from staying stealthed and observing.

The chars in umbra know each other. They have to, crafters etc.

Half my chars don't know each other. I keep knowledge separate. Most of the time, even though some of my chars know who another char is, doesn't mean they chat with each other. So far the only ones I have who do are Haydn and Cein, because they have the parent/child relationship thing going on. And now that Haydn is grown, she pretty much is gone most of the time and doesn't speak to her mother much.

Other than that though, unless tasked to do something, most of my chars are reclusive and don't know much of whats going on besides obvious things, like the general flyers posted around, various laws, etc.

Well, Tai kept a journal that Poet liked to sneak peeks at. Since Poet and Tai used to live in the same place, if one needed to know something important but not metagamaing:

Say someone was tearing up the place (and it has happened). Tai would either leave a note detailing what he saw, or I would stand in Poet's bedroom talking to the bed.

Bleys has the Protocols which is a book that contains both prophecies and information that the Silver Lotus has gathered for how ever old they are.

Since they are all three on the same account, they can never meet in game.

Dual client, normally or rp that so and so was told something depending ont he situatuon. Other option and I have done this for others get someone you trust on another acct. It alld epends on the situation, like people who have kids may have the child and parent on the same account, an interaction ig is not possible then. Then posts tend to suffice.

I only have one other alt in guild. She's been introduced around the guild, but outside that she doesn't share the same acquaintances. I RP their knowledge of each other as a renter/rentee relationship. Of course can't interact with one another in game as it's the same account. One other char is a twin to Yolen, but he doesn't get out much. My other two chars do their own thing. One is a pirate and one is an assassin.

I have a ton of chars but most don't know ea other. But all of my characters that live in DarkCove have at least "met". My servants/mules are House Armunn staff and talk to Ditto fairly openly. Jujual is the housekeeper and she keeps many family secrets from the the other family members so thats always fun to rp out. I usually use an ic story to rp the more interesting conversations. Most never get publicly posted but some do. Most are wary or too afraid to talk to Imy or Taro so, yeah, I talk to myself alot on Ditto. As long as I don't start asking myself, "what did you just say?", then I guess that's ok. lol

I tried the double clienting and really felt awkward having a discussion with myself (with others present, and they thought it was funny). My main two characters, have knowledge of each other in that they used to live together, but they have very separate lives. Neither would know ic about conversations, encounters, etc unless told by someone else. And neither of them know anything at all about my darker character

Okay, thanks everyone! The reason I asked was sometimes it comes up that one of my characters is asked something that another character knows or about one of my other characters, and since they are on the same account I can't really RP with myself, but I never know quite how to respond. I always kinda thought RP was like sex... when you do it with yourself it doesn't really count as the real thing.... but, that is just my opinion.

Anyways, Raedyn was employed by Kard for a time. All of my chars are either friends or acquaintences. I think I have two chars who don't know any of my others, but the rest of them have connects with the others. Helps explain why they live in the same house.

I tend to log unrelated characters in different places. My Zog alt crashes at Cear's place, etc.

If they are related or live together it is totally understandable if they speak to each other.

What ticks me off is when someone is grasping at straws as to why 2 completely different unrelated alts of theirs know the same information.

edit- just realized another annoying thing- when someone's character talks non stop about their player's other alt char. OMG Stop advertising yourself!

The way I resolved that was I only ever RPed one character in-depth.

I created other characters that were floating around, such as Arcana's parents, household staff etc. but they were background, not seriously RPed. For example... my crafter would RP with anyone who showed up while I was logged in with her, but she didn't get out to have her own life or anything; my tamer would also RP, and she knew Arcana but was usually just passing through and therefore didn't keep in touch with IC events because she lived out in the woods for weeks on end.

Also, I never felt like I could give enough depth and personality (as well as online time!) to more than one character at a time.
