Citizens of Britannia,
I wanted to share with you a significant change that is about to take place with the UO development team. Over the next several months, we'll be moving the team from its current location at EA's headquarters outside of San Francisco, CA to the EA Mythic studios in Fairfax, VA.
So what does this mean to you? This is a big move for the team, but we expect it to have very little impact on the game and community in the short term. Planned development and operations will continue with minimal interruption.
In the long term, we believe this move will be a big win for UO and will allow us to better support the game as we move into its second decade of operation. By having all three MMO teams together here in Virginia, we'll be better able to focus on Ultima Onlineās development and ensure a long and lively future for the game.
Moving the UO team into the same studio that currently houses the Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online teams has other advantages as well. We'll be bringing a wealth of MMO experience together under one roof with a clear studio vision and strong leadership. This will benefit all three titles as we'll be able to share resources, experience and technology to continue to improve all of our games.
We know what UO means to you and it is as much a part of our lives as it is yours. For that reason, we are committed to the game's continued development, support and success. Moving the UO team to the EA Mythic studio will provide this most cherished game and its community with the love, attention and resources it needs to continue to grow and thrive.
Thank you,
Chris Rabideau
Producer, Ultima Online

Just half of them, plus the entire QA team, if I heard right. |

Yup. We'll find out which devs made the move as of December. Things aren't looking good right now. _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

Isn't this starting to be a pattern? Every several years, off a goodly chunk of the teams, move offices, and give pep talk to customers? O.o _________________

Hmm... oddly enough this doesn't surprise me... oh wait... that's because they did the same thing about 6 1/2 years ago with EAVA...

Just the fate of corporate America.
The inevitability that everything will melt into one conglomerate corporate load of *censored*. I see this as a good thing, since maybe they will take more of a role IN the game than they have in the past. (based on what I've seen since AOS) |

You should go to the UHall on Stratics...you would think that they just blew up a major city...or the Anti-Christ was revealed...as much gloom and doom as there is. _________________ Through all else, let Honesty lead you! |

Eh, that's big business for ya... Why do you need two developers when you can do the same with one? I don't think it will hurt the game, but I feel real sorry for those in EA with duplicate/redundant jobs _________________ "Millions long for immortality who don't know what to do on rainy sunday afternoon." - Susan Ertz |

Uhall kersplodes over anything and everything, no suprise there. And I agree that this might indeed be a good thing... Honestly, the only developer that appears to be putting any effort into it is Draconi. As for the rest, I want to say that we just don't hear their names associated with large projects (like Draconi and the halloween stuff), but to me, that just shows that they have that little passion and drive to spearhead things and risk their neck to players and their bosses alike. I won't even get started on developers that are going the exact OPPOSITE way and are not productive, not even lazy, but are destructive. I can think of two off the top of my head, one still works there, but I won't make this a Uhall flamepost on the developers. I just hope all the right people got canned and all the ones putting effort into it are given even MORE freedom to do things for the game. |

I live in VA and have talked to Chris in person at the uo town hall. He seems sincere about UO from what we talked about then. Another plus is that Azalin works there too. He hopefully will have some input and knows game lore. I have applied for years to Mythic when I was looking for a job but didn't have any luck. Maybe once they make the move I will give it another shot. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel
