A place like brit castle is limited in scope.....what you want me to erase a fully trained toon to start rping what a butler???a castle cook maybe??sorry not interested......if you want someting like that to succeed youre going to have to have a little something for everyone......not expect people to conform to what you want them to do.....i dont see how brit castle would be part of 80% of people's daily journeys......but good luck with your efforts....ill be retiring from here on 12/20

No one said you had to come, this is not the point that is trying to be made, perhaps I was not clear on the actual point of this.... It is to create a possibility to Role-play with one another outside of tavern night. It makes it possible to create an area in which will always be open to the possibility of RP....

right i thought i already made it clear i wouldnt be there.........but youre missing my point......in order to promote random encounters between members of the community youll need to establish a place that becomes part of a charcters everday routine......kinda like how i run into most people in luna or at a city bank,,,but those arent good places since people are usually there for some OOC logistical purpose......but some sort of transient hub that a character would be popping in an out of during their time online......and IF such a place was in an NPC town then I'd think this thread would never have existed because a centralized place would have materialized on its own by now if such an area was already in place......leading me to think that the right place doesnt exist yet...alot of these responses just reaffirm my belief arpc is content to remain stagnant and narrow in their cooperation and coordination....thank you come again

i always thought the fairgrounds or bagball arena or whatever it is south of Luna was a perfect area......plenty of npc builings...tavern...arena...stage...romantic little pond dealy....player houses can be purchased all around the perimeter to allow for custom expansion......close enough to a major uo hub to allow public exposure and be part of rpers everyday travels letting people who are ---doing other things to cross paths----almost like a random encounter

I like fairgrounds or bagball as well. The Brit castle is rather formal. Truthfully, fairgrounds irl are normally open ended and able to be anything. No, it isn't in front of everyone, but truthfully, at this point, neither is the castle. Though, everyone who is shopping will see a ton of people over a wall and get curious. The fairgrounds also lend itself to a more varied rp. People start going there, and suddenly needs pop up. Who's to defend it. A crafter can suddenly see a huge group of people and find a spot to sell their stuff. Some entrepreneur can make a small "tavern" there. Plays, archery contest, the evil bagball game.

The problem I have with the bagball arena or fairgrounds is the amount of bleed-over from the pvp-leetbois and general jackassery of Luna.

I'm a huge fan of Skara:

1) Large facilities
2) RP dedicated buildings
3) Everything imaginable needed is nearby.

Just my two cents.

Amen, Skara is the most logical choice - on top of what you mention you also have a nice compact environment where lots of people will be able to see interaction.

Well.....I dont know skara that well so maybe it is but youd be limiting public exposure and eliminate any custom expansion........I would think by now everyone knew how to ignore partycrashers........and if you want more non rpers to see you guys then youll have to deal with a few people you dont want to have around....jackasses are part of ANY group of people....plus if everyone wanted to hang out in skara why is noone hanging out there already??

Because as a community we rarely hang out to begin with. Which sucks.

I miss the days of Hanse's. Or the days of SCT before that. Or the days of the HH before that.

we was at serpants hold the other night and it was great. The dock event was such a great event. close to a town with exposure would be the best (just my opinion) if we put ourself in a town that isnt as widley used then we are secluding ourselfs. Many people think we already do that. I think to change that if we was around more show ourselfs more then we mabey would get more activity. Just a suggestion.

This is not intended to offend any individual or group of individuals.

The only logical place from my view is the Luna Fairgrounds.

Heck. we are such a closed community, each falling back into our own little "safe" groups. Does anyone actually want to change that?

We all want more active and interesting rp it seems, but none of the older activities seem to hold much interest for anyone anymore.
When did we last have a land war?
When did we last have a formal ball to celebrate a holiday?
When did we last actually do something together as a community? (I think the vamp halloween a year or so ago may have been the last of that)
Does anyone every have a formal dinner anymore?
When did we ever have a massive turnout for a wedding?
When did we ever have an orc come pee in someone's aquarium or pond?
The old days are gone.... it seems we don't even want to try anymore.

four pages of discussion and no agreement, except a town that no one ever randomly goes to........ Skara? ridiculous. Again, not a crossroad of activity.

We all seem to be so locked in our own little ego trips, power trips, whatever.....

As a group, we seem to be more into how much and how new and how rare our possessions are and how powerful we as characters are (skills) and what powerful equipment and armor own or can muster. Imagination fueled this group before. If the orcs go again, we have lost it all in my opinion. They are our only opposition. Conflict is one thing that fuels rp.

Maybe we are just too darned big now. We share little other than the forums it seems.

We have fallen into a community of tiny little closed groups. We are no longer a community.

definition of community: (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/community)

1. a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.
2. a locality inhabited by such a group.
3. a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists (usually preceded by the ): the business community; the community of scholars.
4. a group of associated nations sharing common interests or a common heritage: the community of Western Europe.
5. Ecclesiastical . a group of men or women leading a common life according to a rule.

There is no leadership to speak of, no king, no regency, no established monarchy of any sort. It is all sort of whoever speaks first and most often tends to set the rules and when needed, calls for input from others; this does not lend itself to any sort of structured guidance. If, in fact, there has been some sort of leadership established by the powers that be (i.e., the inner sanctum of the guild leaders) then we, the populace of this community should be advised. We need strong leadership if we are too survive as an entity.

Luna Fairgrounds are ideal....... I think I suggested Luna Fairgrounds at some point, I do not agree that a deserted city with nothing to draw us there except rp is appropriate. If I said brit, rather than Luna, when i suggested a fairground, sorry. We all hit Luna at sometime, and so does almost every other char in trammel. One of the reasons Luna is good is because there is someone wandering around there any time the shard is up.

Or, in other words.... let's either do something or quit beating on this almost dead horse! Stifle your egos for a while.

Pick this apart if it makes you feel any better or if you can add something to help. I speak now because I care.... and I don't like what I have watched happening here. I doubt many others do either.

Our history has been rewritten also..... not a good thing to do. If you came here as a group, retain your own history.

If you have read this far, thank you.... I can be contact by pm here or respond in chat if you wish. or not!

still disagree on location luna fairgrounds not feeling it,not gonna pick on particulars of what you wrote Pia,but some people have done many of the things you asked about, and maybe in all fairness they were not open to the entire community. We as a community just need to do more and perhaps stop waiting for others to invite us and maybe do a little more inviting

How is coming to a consensus an ego thing, Pia? This isn't beating a dead horse. Adults have discussions.

When did we last have a land war?
- H+G/SG? Sanctus/Vamps?

When did we last have a formal ball to celebrate a holiday?
- Last Week in haven for Thanksgiving.

When did we last actually do something together as a community? (I think the vamp halloween a year or so ago may have been the last of that)
- I can think of a few jousts over the last year.

Does anyone every have a formal dinner anymore?
- Nujel'm Nights last February

When did we ever have a massive turnout for a wedding?
- When was the last big public wedding?

When did we ever have an orc come pee in someone's aquarium or pond?
- Every week. Come to tavern night. It's a regular thing now.

The old days are gone.... it seems we don't even want to try anymore.
- This thread would seem to speak otherwise.

Instead of writing a huge diatribe how nobody does anything, why not host one of the events you want to see? That's why I'm working out the details for an event I want to hold in the beginning of the year. People are tossing out ideas. Saying what they would like to see. Less negativity: that's how things get done.

I thought you wanted the old days? Skara used to be a MAJOR hub. I still do tons there, because it isn't overrun with blaze orange, pvp-leet-doodz and random rediculousness.

Quote:
"We all hit Luna at sometime"

No. We, don't. You might, but some of us actively avoid that place like the plague. Leet-speek, pvp training, golem fighting and lag....no thanks. I'd rather try to cultivate the RPers in the community that we already have that are wall-flowering and quietly lurking and draw them into a large event, or weekly events or a widespread plot rather than doods that will RP so they can beat on easy targets. I'd rather cultivate a second weekly event like Merci is suggesting. I'd like to see Tavern night expanded. Rather than it being just Monday nights, I think we should have Monday be the organizd night, but the rest of the week, that tavern be "host" so that if people are in game, they go there looking for random RP - in the same vein that Hanses, or SCT or The Hungry Halfling were hubs back in the day. Weekly hubs, so people know "hey, I wanna RP, where can I easily find people this week?"

We're never going to bring back the glory days of 10 years ago. Best we can do is take the knowledge and wisdom we've gathered after doing this for the last ten years and figure out the best way to facilitate what we have.

You want to use the fairgrounds in Luna? Great! Don't complain that we're beating a dead horse. Host an event there. Hold a bag ball tournament. Do something. I may not go there as a regular order of business, but if there was an event there, I'd go.
