Meddling always led to trouble. Thraxas knew that, but discounted it. So much was at stake. It was worth the risk.

In his heart, he hated to think of anyone else having her. He had thought of her quite favorably from the moment they met. She was feisty, passionate, devoted, alluring, innocent... and utterly feminine. She haunted his dreams and dominated his waking thoughts. Having tried, and failed, to get his mind off her, he finally admitted the truth to himself: he loved her.

He was sure of it. One of the first indicators were the twinges of remorse anytime it came to mind that she would soon belong to someone else... a man as good as they come, but one unworthy of her nonetheless.

There were problems, however. That she was in love with someone else was the main one.

He needed time with her, time away from everyone. Time to impress her with charm, heroism, generosity and, of course, virility.

A spell here... a potion there... a deluge of expensive baubles... some humor. It could be done. It would be done.

Deminatza would be his one day... one day soon.
