Sarian watched from the Barracks as the Sanctians left the Tavern. The Blackmarshians slowly filed outside behind them. He watched both groups say their good-byes. The soldiers began to collect their things, preparing for the up coming raid that Warlord Sarian told them they would soon go on.

The Blackmarsh Warlord made his way down from the guard walls of the solid stone barracks. He pulled open the massive steel doors and made his way outside. The soldiers began to file over after noticing Sarians presence.

"Jareth has reported that Lizardmen have grown closer to Blackmarsh. He made this observation while being ambushed." Sarian stated.

"Good observation." Kali piped in.

Sarian continued. "They become more brave with each passing day. First the orcs, now swamp beasts. Together, we'll make our way to the swamps and fight our way in. I'd like to see what just might be causing them to come forth. Perhaps it's another demon driving them forward. Whatever the cause, we must stop them.

Cal has taken a small group to Yew to look closer to the problem concerning both of the gate portals there. So he and a few others will not be joining us tonight. Warlord Gerard has blessed us with his presence and taken a leave from Cove for the evening. Orelen is tending to business amongst the citizens of Britain. Let us work at keeping Blackmarsh, the Capital of our Empire, safe."

With that said, a group of brigands broke out from the trees attempting to ambush the soldiers. As quickly as were seen, they were killed. Half of the group hardly realized they had attacked.

The soldiers made their way towards the swamps. It was a short walk up the road, disturbingly close actually. At the edge of the swamp a plague beast lord, the strongest of their kind, had made its way to the edge. This would be the first obstacle for the group to over come.

The battle with the beast had been surprisingly tougher than Sarian thought. He looked deep into the swamps. Green clouds and black mist floated amongst the sludge. The group pressed in cautiously. The fumes crept up into their nostrils, causing several of them to cough.

Then they came. Alligators, Lizardmen, Bogs, Slims, beasts of all kinds pressed in from each side. Poisonous clouds formed around them and acid stained their blades. Green blood and red blood poured down all around the soldiers. The fought pressing deeper into the swamps.

The battle raged viciously, much more difficult than the Warlord could have ever suspected. Hordes of monsters pressed on them. A burning deep within Sarians body brought him to alarm.

"What's happening to my armor!?" Kali screamed just a few meters over.

Sarian spun quickly, taking a minor blow from a Lizardman. The short glimpse he managed to get of Kali, was her armored dripping off of her. Almost instantly, as Sarian turned to return fight against the Lizardman, is armor began disintegrating.

"GATHER TOGETHER!" Sarian shouted.

The soldiers of Blackmarsh were slowly becoming unprotected. Their armor disintegrating before their very eyes. Poisons toxins crept up from below, melting their armor and driving them to cough violently.

"RETREAT!" Sarian shouted.

The fought their way back. It had become even more difficult to withstand the pressure of the beats without armor. The group made it to the edge of the swamp.

"Everyone alright?" Gerard asked, looking around.

"Where's Sarian?" Camilla asked in return.

The group looked around frantically, their Warlord no where to be found. Without a second thought, the group pressed back into the swamps. Never leaving a man behind. It's there that they found him, collapsed face first in the dark green muck. They gathered Sarian up and took him from the swamps.

"Lay him down quickly!" Mithaniel shouted. "Use what arcane magics you can to cure him." As quickly as he said it, Gerard began to act. Ever bit of arcane magic he possessed was put into Sarian.

Sarian coughed a bit and began to rise slowly. His legs immediately buckled under him. "Can't..breath." he spat out before collapsing again.

"Take him to Blackmarsh and find an empty room for him in the Inn. Find a healer and bring them to Blackmarsh to tend to him." Gerard commanded.

The group lifted Sarian onto the back of Camillas "dog". As they prepared to make their march back to Blackmarsh, several brigands ambushed them from the south.

"Son'ova!" Gerard screamed. The group returned attack. The soldiers were virtually unprotected. Their armor was is tatters barely covering their body. With their disadvantage, the fight was a bit more difficult, but the group of Blackmarsh soldiers made quick work of the brigands.

The group returned to Blackmarsh and laid Sarian to rest in one of the Inn rooms. A healer had shown up and begun to tend to him. The soldiers unsure of the fate of their Warlord. They gathered together in the tavern, drinking quietly.

"Maybe they're working with the swamp beasts to plague Blackmarsh.." Malicite muttered quietly while applying a bandage to his arm.

To Be Continued!

It had been five days since the Blackmarsh soldiers set off into the swamps. They were defeated due to their lack of preparation and lack of knowledge about the devastating swamp. Their armour proved useless, their steeds grew sick the following day from the poisons.

Sarian, the Blackmarsh Warlord, was deathly ill and bed ridden. A healer was at his bedside day and night, trying his best to keep the poison at bay. He had managed to keep Sarian alive for this long, but the Warlord recently took a turn for the worse.

The healer finally left Sarians room in the Blackmarsh Tavern & Inn. He stepped through the double wooden doors to be met with a cool evening breeze. Barra lay curled up by his log, a small stuffed bear held awkwardly close to his chest. The healer continued walking further out front of the Tavern & Inn. In the distance he saw a man pacing back and forth by the farm.

The healer approached him, as he did, Cal turned to face him.

“You’re the one taking care of Sarian?” Cal asked, halting his pace.

“Aye, I am.”

“How does it look? It’s been days, surely by now you’ve managed to do something.”

“He’s not in the best of conditions. It took me a day to get control of his illness and to minimize the spreading. It took me another day to figure out which type of poison it was. It’s foreign to me, extremely rare. These swamps present something not very well known to most. It’s taken me a couple more days to develop a cure.” The healer replied.

“So they he’ll be fine soon, because you cured him.” Cal looked at the healer.

“Well, I’ve figured out how to brew it. But it contains ingredients that are difficult to be recovered. I cannot leave his bedside to do it. Nor would I risk trying without soldiers at my side.”

“What exactly is it that needs to be obtained?” Cal asked.

“Well, I have the basic ingredients, nightshade and ginseng. I turn those both into a power and blend them together. Three types of blood are needed in combination with the reagents. Regular demon and dragon blood won’t work. You’ll need something more...advanced.”

“Well? What is it?” Cal grew impatient.

“You need to collect blood from three Ancient Wyrms, two Balron Daemons, and one Titan. This will provide the blood of one of the eldest creatures, a devastating daemon and the mightiest of humanoid warriors. These bloods combined with the powdered reagents, will create a potion able to cure this poison. He’ll have to drink it while filtering it through a giant serpents scale.” The healer crossed his hands in front of him.

Cal nodded in response. “I will inform the Blackmarsh soldiers of this. We will head out today or tomorrow to gather the necessary ingredients. The soldiers just aided Barra with his Ilshenar troubles last evening. We’ll have them focus on saving the life of one of our own first. Then we’ll return to aiding Barra.”

“So be it. But make sure it’s done soon. Sarian doesn’t have much time left.” The healer nodded and turned to head back to the Tavern & Inn.

Kali sat inside the Blackmarsh Tavern impatiently tapping her foot.

"Where is everyone?" she thought to herself.

It was getting late. Surely she wasn't the only one up for the battle ahead. In the day prior, Cal had informed the soldiers of Blackmarsh what it was they needed to do in order to save the life of Sarian.

"The healer needs us to gather the blood of three Ancient Wyrms, two Balron Daemons, and one Titan to cure Sarian of the swamp poison."

They all agreed to meet the next day to tackle the challenge. So... where was everyone? Pacing now, she glanced at the door. In strolls Jareth.

"Sorry I'm late... Um.. Where is everyone?" he asks.

"That's what I was asking myself!" Kali sighed in frustration.

Jareth and Kali chatted a moment about the situation when Camilla and Selena made their way into the Tavern. Selena was twitching as she has been lately.

"Are you still twitching?" asked Kali.

"What do you mean?" answered Selena twitching oddly.

"Um... nevermind. Has anyone seen Gerard?" Kali questioned... blushing a bit.

Just then, Gerard arrived with Cal in tow. The tenseness in the room seemed to ease with the appearance of the two Blackmarsh Warlords. Kali was just excited to get the show on the road.

Cal begins, "I won't be joining you this evening... but I suggest you head to the dungeons of Covetous to complete the first task. There will be less danger of running into any opposing enemies there."

"But... that's what I was hoping for! To run into an opposing enemy and let some of our trainees get some practice in!" cried Kali rising from her seat.

"Tonight isn't about training. It's about gathering the blood needed to cure Sarian. Now sit down and listen." Cal frowned down at her.

"Fine..." Kali shuffled back to her seat and looked to Gerard.

Gerard began to brief the group on what was expected of them. In the end, he decided that it would be fastest to slay the Ancient Wyrms in Destard rather than Covetous... despite the dangers of opposition. The group gathered their supplies and weapons and headed out on the mission. Malicite joined in time to participate.

Upon reaching Destard, Malicite called out, "Head northwest... past all the dragons to the lower level. We can gather again there where it's safe."

The soldiers of Blackmarsh charged forward through the cavern of dragons, making their way to the safer lower level. Once all were accounted for, Gerard led the group lower still towards the Ancient Wyrms. Cam unleashed her own pet dragon upon the Ancient Wyrms and the soldiers attacked for all they were worth. Once the Wyrms were slain, Malicite and Jareth gathered the precious blood in vials.

"Now" said Gerard "Onto our next task."

The group of soldiers headed towards the dungeon of Hythloth. They were in search of the feared and mighty Balrons. They needed to slay two and collect the blood for the serum to save Sarian. Hythloth was a vile dungeon... a maze of teleporters and dangerous creatures. Finally, they reached the room of the Balrons.

"Act quickly!" Selena shouted as she cast a paralyzing spell on the creatures.

The soldiers of Blackmarsh fought the Balrons valiantly. In a matter of moments, their task was complete. Gerard put away his blade and collected the blood of the dreaded daemon.

"One last task lies ahead." Gerard said as he wiped the sweat from his brow.

Selena cast a gate to the dungeon of Despise so the group could tackle the last task of killing the mythical Titan. The Titan's magic was to be feared and respected, but he would be no match for the well rounded army. As the dust settled and the spilled blood was collected... the tired soldiers looked at one another.

"Well done." Camilla said as she patted her loyal dragon.

"Indeed. Well done." Kali repeated and her eyes met those of Gerard.

"Everyone back to Blackmarsh. Let's get the healer the blood he needs as quickly as possible so he can save Sarian." Gerard commanded.

They had succeeded in the tasks set before them... however... in the back of everyone's mind... they wondered if their efforts had been too little too late.

The healer sat quietly on a stool, grinding ginseng into a fine powder. Beside him stood a royal guard, covered in shadow platemail, holding a massive halberd. Every few moments the healer would look up to acknowledge the presence of the guard.

"Was very kind of the Emperor to allow me to use his private quarters to muster up the brew. Seems like a magnificent laboratory dedicated to the many arcane arts." The healer smiled up a the guard while tipping the powdered ginseng into a flask.

"The Emperor is a fair man." Stated the royal guard.

The healer continued his mixture. Next he ground up nightshade into a fine powder and poured it into the same flask as the ginseng. Next came the three different types of bloods. He filled the flask and shook it wildly.

"The reagent that most use as a natural drug, nightshade. The reagent with natural healing abilities, ginseng. Blood of the eldest, strongest, wisest of creatures, the Ancient Wyrm. Blood of the most fierce, brutal of all daemons, the Balron. Blood of the mightiest, gifted, most respected warriors, a Titan.

Together the reagents bestow a breath of healing life, the blended bloods grant the power of a fierce-ancient-warrior. Consumed through the scale of giant serpent, it will grant Sarian new life, for his is nearly gone, and will filter out all poisonous toxins."

The healer held the flask up and tapped it twice with his index finger. He nodded to the royal guard, who in return, showed him the way out of the barracks. The healer walked eagerly across the grass towards the Tavern & Inn.

As his foot touched the front step of the Tavern & Inn, he broke into a gently jog. He shoved open both wooden doors and hurried up two flights of stairs. He approached the door to Sarians room and gently pried it open.

There Sarian laid unconscious. He coughed lightly every few minutes. The healer approached the bed cautiously. He tugged a serpents scale from his pouch. Reaching over carefully, the healer lowered Sarians jaw, opening his mouth slightly. He placed the serpents scale over his mouth. The healer popped the cork from the top of the flask and gingerly poured the liquid into Sarians mouth.

Moments had passed, the healer sat quietly in the chair beside the bed. Sarian coughed and sputtered. His hands gently clenched together and his eyes parted, opening slightly. Sarian slowly pressed himself up in the bed to sit up against the head board.

"Be easy, friend. Your body is most likely still weak, don't rush on movement." The healer spoke carefully.

"Wha...what happened?" Sarian asked.

"You lead the soldiers of Blackmarsh into the swamps to drive the lizardmen back. However, you were unprepared for the poisons of the swamp and the brutal hordes that laid within it. You inhaled too much poison while shouting commands and ended up here."

Sarian nodded slightly and winced a bit. The room door opened a bit and Denzin walked in. The Emperor glanced around the room and muttered a bit.

"Hardly a suitable place for a place of recovery. You lacked supplies and a place to prepare substances." Denzin stated.

"Hardly a thing, M'lord. I didn't plan on being tied up in your town for too long." The healer smiled.

"How do you feel, Warlord?"Denzin asked.

"Actually, considering what I've gone through, from what I've heard, I feel great." Sarian replied with a smirk.

"Excellent news. Your soldiers miss you." Denzin turned his head to the healer. "Tell me sir, your name?"

"Lash. Lash Rendorax."

"How would you like a full time job in Blackmarsh as a healer?" Denzin asked, gently rubbing his hands together.

"Would I have a building for such things?"

"We've already began construction beside the Town Hall for such a thing, The Healer Shop." Denzin said, holding his hands up like envisioning a picture.

"I'd be honored." Lash replied.

"Great! Get yourself better now Sarian. You've had a lot of down time. Dr. Rendorax, once you're done here, meet me at our Town Hall. We shall discuss your future in Blackmarsh." The Emperor nodded and turned on his heel. He was out the door before either Sarian or Dr. Rendorax had time to reply.

"Welcome to Blackmarsh, Doc." Sarian smirked.

The swamps have proven to be a formidable foe, but that was before the artisans of Blackmarsh were able to specially tailor suits that would resist the plague-infested waters and deadly poisons in the area. The volunteers suited up and began to head out.

The plan was simple. Circumnavigate the swamp, and then strike through to the middle. Having no problems hacking and slashing their way through the swamp, it was time to head towards the middle. Orelen climbed atop a nearby tree and pointed the group in the best possible direction.

While fighting in the middle, the group spotted two swamp dragons who were struggling to survive. "Camilla!" Cal shouted, "Tend to the swamp dragons! Bring them to our aid!" Camilla launched an arrow right through a bogling, its head being completely removed from the impact of the shot. She then turned and made her way towards the swamp dragons, convincing them that they could be mutually beneficial to one another.

Kali was given the reigns to the second swamp dragon, while Camilla rode the first.

With the resistant suits doing their job, the swamp had been cleared with few difficulties for the Blackmarsh soldiers and citizens. They headed back to Blackmarsh, where they showed the swamp dragons to the stable masters, who would prepare them for battle.

Cal then ordered the suits to be burned, and grinned at Selena. The pyro immediately smiled and was obviously excited that she was tasked with setting something aflame. As the sun set and the moon shined high in the sky, the swamps were, for the first time in a long time, peacefully quiet.
